Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jay Walkr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I started back when I was 19, basically trying to be famous for the sake of escaping a reality I was already mentally drifting through.
I was around 22 when I realized that I wanted to take my music in a serious direction. I had already been making music for a little while, but it was very leisurely and without genuine purpose.
After some thought, I figured it’d be a waste of energy just doing music in such a mindless and aimless way. I took a step back to evaluate what message I want to put out, as well as what sounds naturally feel good for me to put together.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
How I got into music was songwriting. I wrote a few songs as a teenager and got very positive reviews from my peers and professional musicians & artists. I was inspired to go after music with a higher ambition and dove head first into the world of creative arts.
I make music about how people can enjoy, perceive, and experience life. Many songs I write are from a personal perspective, but I often try to think from other people’s point of view.
What sets me apart from others, I have yet to truly find. I think of myself as someone with many racing thoughts and love in my heart, with an eagerness to shape stories of grandiosity. I feel as though a lot of us want to feel larger than life at times, so I can’t say I’m too different in that regard. But my sound is insane, that’s a definite.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I knew earlier on the beauty of networking and collaboration. There are a lot of avenues for enhancing your artistry, but in my opinion, I feel best when learning from other artists about how they work and what sounds they curate. It inspires me to seek out more from myself and expand on things I already know that I like, but can still find new ways to make them feel fresh and exciting.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being a creative, at least for me, is the opportunities that come from simply making art and telling people about it. There are so many people who could hear/see what you do and feel inspired, show love or interest in your creativity, and if nothing else, just enjoy your art as it brings new color into their life. The biggest reward is that it feels good to bring it into the world.
