Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jay Tarentino. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jay, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My whole mission of making music is to be known for making amazing music. Since I started, my goal wasn’t to make money off of this I just wanted to be heard. The money situation for me is just a bonus for the hard work and dedication I put on my beats and samples that’s how I see it. My way of making beats and samples is different I would say just because I try to sound different than everyone else in the industry. I don’t do it on purpose either, they’re just ideas that come from me and my head. My dream mission is to prove the world that I got what it takes to be up there with the greats in my town and in the industry. Be remembered for being unique and standing out no matter how long it takes to get there.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jay Tarentino, I’m a music producer/sample maker from Houston, Texas and I’ve been producing since I was a freshman in high school. When Travis Scott dropped his debut album “Rodeo” it hit different for me, the album inspired me so much in so many ways that I started taking production seriously when I was 16 years old. Ever since then I been working hard on music. I haven’t gotten a major placement yet but I’ve been active around my city working with anybody I can like artists, producer etc. chasing my first placement till this day but I’m confident enough to know that it’ll happen.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me build a good reputation around Houston was just meeting other artists, producers and engineers not only in Houston but other cities outside of Texas. I only associate or talk to creatives that I think are really dope, complimenting their work ethic, music catalogs and much more. Giving them their flowers first and foremost cause I know how much that means to people.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I feel like I’m still working on building my audience but I’ve gotten a little more attention than what I use to back in the day. My advice based on my experience would be just to be yourself and not mimic what’s hot in the music business, follow other producers and engineers that you feel like they’re in your lane. That’s what I’ve done and I’m doing pretty well. In other words just be you and create what you think it’s dope musicians or artist will eventually catch up to what you’re doing and they will be interested in working with you.
