Jay, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I used to work at a corporate job, but I always knew that I wanted to start my own business. After years of working my side gig on the side, I was still feeling unfulfilled because I knew I had to go into my 9-5. It was a great job but it just wasn’t my purpose. I finally made the decision to quit my job and pursue my side business full-time. That is when Video Cartel grew bigger a lot quicker than I expected.
It was a big risk, especially because I didn’t have any savings or a safety net to fall back on. Most people wait until they have some reserves in their account before making a big move, but I knew that if I didn’t take the risk now, I might never have the courage to do it later.
So I took a leap of faith and went for it. I put all of my energy into my business, working tirelessly on every project that came my way. It wasn’t always easy, and there were times when I felt overwhelmed or uncertain, but I kept pushing forward.
It eventually paid off. I started attracting new clients, and word of mouth about my videography services began to spread. Before I knew it, I was making more money than I ever had before and had created a successful business from scratch.
Looking back, I know that quitting my job and pursuing my business full-time was the best decision I ever made. It was scary at the time, but I realized that sometimes, the biggest risks can lead to the greatest rewards.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The inspiration behind my business idea came from the various individuals I have met throughout my life and career who I believe have important messages to share with the world. However, the one common barrier that stood in the way was the lack of knowledge and resources to create video content. This is where my expertise comes in to assist them in building their brand online.
As we know, video content is one of the most powerful tools for conveying a message, and YouTube is the perfect platform to showcase it. Many people struggle with filming and editing, or simply do not have the time to learn these skills, which is where I come in. My goal is to help these individuals overcome these obstacles and have their voices heard by the world.
My company, Video Cartel, provides comprehensive services that include pre-production, filming, editing, and even creating thumbnail and description for the videos. Additionally, we help in creating social media campaigns to drive traffic to the YouTube channel. From start to finish, we take care of everything related to video content creation.
One of the biggest challenges I faced when starting my business was pricing. As someone who values fairness, it was crucial for me to come up with a pricing model that would be reasonable for my clients while still allowing me to sustain my business. It took some time and learning experiences to get it right, but I am confident that the prices we offer are fair and competitive.
The business side of things has also been a learning curve. Registering my business with the state and handling all the legal requirements was a tedious process, but an essential step to take as the business began to grow. I learned that taking care of the legal side of things is critical in covering your bases in the long run.
One thing I take pride in is the fact that my business has grown organically through word-of-mouth recommendations. I am grateful that my clients have been satisfied with my services and have referred me to their network.
Looking ahead, I am excited about the future of Video Cartel. Scaling the business is the next step, and I believe that with hard work and dedication, the potential for growth is limitless. I am confident that my passion and expertise in video content creation will allow me to help even more individuals and businesses establish their online presence.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I first started Video Cartel, I focused solely on creating video content for clients. However, I soon realized that there was a growing need for online marketing services, particularly for small businesses and startups.
I had to pivot my business model and expand my services to include social media campaigns, email marketing, and other online advertising efforts. This shift allowed me to provide more comprehensive support to my clients and cater to their evolving needs.
While pivoting my business was a daunting task, it was also an opportunity for growth and expansion. It required me to learn new skills and invest in additional resources, but it was ultimately worth it. I am now able to provide a wider range of services and help even more businesses establish their online presence.
This experience taught me the importance of being adaptable and willing to pivot when necessary. In business, it is crucial to stay agile and adjust to the changing needs of the market and clients. While it may be challenging, embracing change and pivoting can lead to new opportunities and greater success.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There is one book that had a significant impact on my entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy, and that is “The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success” by Deepak Chopra. This book helped me shift my mindset from a purely materialistic perspective to one that emphasizes the importance of balance, purpose, and mindfulness.
In the book, Chopra outlines seven spiritual laws that, when applied, can lead to greater success and fulfillment in life and business. These laws include the law of pure potentiality, the law of giving and receiving, and the law of intention and desire, among others.
What I appreciate most about this book is how it emphasizes the interconnectedness of all aspects of life, including business. It helped me see that success is not just about financial gain, but also about creating a positive impact on the world and living a meaningful life.
Overall, “The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success” has been instrumental in shaping my approach to entrepreneurship and leadership. It has taught me to prioritize values like authenticity, compassion, and creativity in my business endeavors and has inspired me to strive for a more holistic and fulfilling version of success.
