We were lucky to catch up with Jay Nixon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
10 years ago I took a big risk and moved my business from NY to Las Vegas.
I had a major life change and overnight moved across country.
I was faced with the challenges of getting a new license, a new place to live and a whole new clientele.
A move like this is a major risk for a salon business.
I tapped into the power of social media and quickly started a rebrand in a new city.
To my surprise, things turned around rather quickly as there was a demand for my services. So much that my clients from the east coast even flew out for services
My business more than doubled in the 1st year. A new bi-coastal enterprise opened a who new world off opportunity.
Jay , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been doing hair professionally for 20 years now.
My journey actually started at around 5 years old.
My mother was a hairstylist. I found myself quickly fascinated with everything hair.
It was my secret obsession playing salon & styling my secret stash of doll heads.
Shortly after high school I quickly knew Hair was going to be my life
I hustled my way through many years of apprenticeships & cosmetology school while juggling management jobs in beauty retail.
After a devastating job loss I was forced into turing my passion into a full time career.
Now everything makes sense.
I’m a hair extensions specialist , focusing on healthy hair alternatives.
I’m so fulfilled on a daily basis helping women feel more confident and beautiful through transformative beauty techniques
I own a salon studio in Las Vegas Nevada
I’m also a session stylist servicing clients in Hollywood on set for film & stage.
I own a line of hair extensions & wigs catering to clients who suffer from hair loss or just want to safely experience the hair of their dreams.
I’m a solution based stylist. I offer clients healthy ways to reach their goals while educating them on how to have future success with their hair in or out of my chair.
I’m most proud of maintaining my brand essence of integrity and client experience all while maneuvering almost every sector of the industry.
I believe every client should have access to the best hair of their lives
regardless of status or opportunity
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth.
I’ve built an awesome community of people who all share the common goal of love and respect while in the chair
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I’m really a fan of Text communication. about 8 years ago I created a dedicated text line for clients to access for any questions or concerns they may have. The casual format keeps open honest dialogue
