Leaving my career in teaching after dedicating 12 years of my life to education was a monumental risk that I embarked upon with careful consideration and a leap of faith. Teaching had always been my passion, but as I progressed in my career, I found myself yearning for new challenges and opportunities to make a broader impact beyond the classroom walls. The decision to transition away from teaching was met with mixed reactions, particularly from my parents, who had always valued the stability and security of a traditional job. Their skepticism stemmed from their own beliefs about financial security, which were deeply rooted in a mindset of avoiding debt and relying solely on savings. However, I recognized that in order to achieve my goals and aspirations, I needed to embrace a different approach—one that involved taking calculated risks and leveraging opportunities for growth.
With my background in education as a foundation, I ventured into the world of entrepreneurship and investing, initially focusing on areas where I had some level of expertise and understanding. I diversified my portfolio by investing in various ventures, including trucking, food franchises, day trading, real estate properties such as hotels, warehouses, homes, duplexes, and townhomes, and providing support to small business owners looking to scale their operations.
One of the most significant risks I took was venturing into the realm of grant writing and funding. Despite having limited experience in this field, I was determined to learn and adapt, recognizing the potential to make a meaningful impact by helping organizations secure the resources they needed to thrive. I immersed myself in learning the intricacies of grant writing, building relationships within the funding community, and honing my skills to effectively articulate the visions and missions of the organizations I worked with.
The journey has been filled with challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt, but each obstacle has served as a valuable lesson and opportunity for growth. While not every risk has yielded immediate success, I am proud of the progress I have made and the impact I have been able to achieve, both personally and professionally. Taking the leap to leave teaching and pursue a path less traveled has opened doors to new possibilities, expanded my horizons, and allowed me to make a difference in ways I never imagined possible.

Yes, my side hustle did indeed evolve into my main career, particularly in the realm of tutoring and securing government grants and contracts. It all began during my time as a teacher when I noticed a growing need for personalized education and academic support among my students. Recognizing this demand, I started offering tutoring services on the side to provide additional assistance to students who needed it.

Initially, my tutoring sessions were small-scale and informal, conducted after school or on weekends. However, as word spread about the effectiveness of my teaching methods and the positive outcomes achieved by my students, demand for my services began to grow. Parents started reaching out to me directly, seeking tutoring for their children, and I soon found myself juggling multiple tutoring sessions alongside my teaching responsibilities.

As the demand for my tutoring services continued to increase, I realized that I had an opportunity to turn my side hustle into a full-fledged business. I took the leap and decided to dedicate myself fully to building my tutoring business, resigning from my teaching position to focus on it exclusively.

One of the key milestones in scaling up my tutoring business was when I successfully secured my first government grant to support educational initiatives in underprivileged communities. This grant provided the funding and resources needed to expand my tutoring services to a wider audience, allowing me to reach more students and make a greater impact in their academic journey.

Over time, I continued to pursue government grants and contracts, leveraging my experience and track record of success to secure additional funding for my tutoring programs.
