We were lucky to catch up with Jay Derosier recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jay thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Of course!!! However; I am thankful I waited to build my confidence and knowledge with this world. The confidence to not get myself to worked up on this content world denying my style of work. Plus the knowledge that I gain from see others fail in certain situations to help me from not making their same mistakes. I believe that my story sooner or later will be someone’s own study and what to improve on what I’ve accomplished.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Jay Derosier, the owner and creative mind behind The Jay Derosier Media Network, a platform dedicated to producing engaging, educational, and entertaining content with a mission to uplift the Black community. We’re not just creating shows—we’re fostering conversations, challenging narratives, and celebrating our culture through humor and insight.
Our network currently produces two standout shows:
• Serious Sarcasm Podcast: This show is my personal soapbox where I dive into topics like politics, music, pop culture, and more, all with a comedic twist. It’s about tackling serious issues with wit and sarcasm, creating a space for honest dialogue and a few laughs along the way.
• Fupas & Flapjacks: This show takes a lighter, more playful approach, blending fun, relatable content with meaningful discussions. It’s about celebrating our humanity, embracing our quirks, and connecting through shared experiences—all while keeping it real.
The overarching goal of The Jay Derosier Media Network is to blend education with entertainment, empowering our audience to think critically, laugh freely, and see the beauty in our stories. We’re here to amplify Black voices, challenge stereotypes, and remind people that learning and laughing can go hand in hand.
What sets us apart is our commitment to authenticity and representation. Everything we produce is rooted in realness—no sugarcoating, no pretending to be something we’re not. It’s all about creating content that feels true to our audience while inspiring them to grow and thrive.
I’m most proud of the impact we’ve already begun to make—whether it’s through sparking meaningful conversations, uplifting someone’s day, or just offering a fresh perspective. If there’s one thing I want people to know about The Jay Derosier Media Network, it’s that we’re here to make a difference—one laugh, one lesson, and one story at a time.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the most defining parts of my journey has been overcoming my own fears and challenges to create a platform that I’m truly proud of. For a long time, I was hesitant to speak up. I’d watch people spread lies and negativity, pushing harmful and divisive narratives, and I stayed quiet—not because I didn’t care, but because I didn’t have the confidence to share my own truth.
That all changed when I decided I couldn’t sit back anymore. I created a space where I could proudly push back against toxic ideologies like the “red pill” movement, which thrives on negativity and division. My platform is rooted in the opposite—uplifting positivity, real conversations, and personal growth. It’s about challenging those harmful narratives with honesty, humor, and heart.
My journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced and beaten cancer, battled social anxiety and depression, and even endured transient ischemic attacks (TIAs). Each of these struggles tested me, but they also shaped me. They forced me to confront my fears, prioritize my mental and physical health, and ultimately realize that life is too short not to stand up for what you believe in.
The process of creating The Jay Derosier Media Network has been as much about my personal growth as it has been about the work itself. It’s taught me that resilience isn’t just about surviving tough times—it’s about using those experiences to fuel your purpose. Today, I’m proud to have built a platform that not only represents who I am but also encourages others to embrace positivity, growth, and their own truth.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is knowing that my voice is being heard and that it’s resonating with people. Every like, every comment—whether it’s from the very first supporter or the most recent one (excluding the bots, of course)—brings me a sense of joy and fulfillment. It’s incredible to see the community I’ve built grow day by day, and I never take a single supporter for granted.
But beyond the external validation, there’s also something deeply fulfilling about the process itself. Every episode I create is a journey. The research, the investigation, the time spent educating myself—it’s all done with the intention of bringing my audience something meaningful. It’s not just about sharing my perspective; it’s about adding depth, context, and value to the conversation.
Finishing each episode is like crossing the finish line of a marathon. It’s exhilarating to know that I’ve put in the work, learned something new, and translated that into content that can inform, entertain, or inspire others. Being able to mix education with my own unique perspective is what makes this journey so rewarding for me.
At the end of the day, it’s about connection—connecting with my audience, with the topics I’m passionate about, and with my own growth as a creator. That’s what keeps me going, and that’s what makes it all worth it.
