We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jay C.. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jay below.
Jay, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
Build a Strong Team:
Surround yourself with a talented and diverse team that complements your skills.
Clearly define roles and responsibilities to ensure efficient operations.
Foster a culture of innovation, communication, and adaptability.
Since moving to Los Angeles, I have relied on my abilities to advance toward my objectives. I have discovered that in LA you need lanes, a network to get you into rooms, and circumstances that can advance you. I can accomplish a lot on my own and demonstrate it to the world, but I would be a slave to my immediate circle, similar to some YouTube and Instagram creators. Working with a talented team with contacts is something I would advise. In this approach, you can demonstrate your abilities and get lots of recommendations from your team.
Like many of us who moved to LA from somewhere else, I have discovered that there are many different methods to concentrate on your path. If you follow these words, you will have one piece of the puzzle, which is fairly large but can shrink with wonderful individuals nearby.
Jay, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, Jay of JLC Imagery thanks for being here. JLC Imagery is a creative company founded by an individual who entered the photography and modeling industry through a unique journey. It all started when the founder (Me) was dating a successful model in Nashville, which led to their immersion in the world of modeling and photography.
Initially, they played a supportive role, helping with marketing, selling prints and assisting with social media for their partner’s modeling career. However, their interest in photography grew, and they decided to venture into it, despite feeling initially unsure about their skills. Drawing on their background as a graphic designer, they began experimenting with fashion shoots, runway events, and photography, often focusing on capturing my girlfriend’s beauty.
My journey was marked by challenges, including having to adjust my editing style to meet industry standards and the difficulties of breaking into the Los Angeles photography scene. However, my determination, support from my partner, Sherry (owner of Tribe Modeling Agency), and a commitment to learning and evolving eventually led me to work with renowned clients and personalities like Bravo, Kevin Hart, and NBA.
What sets JLC Imagery apart is its commitment to innovation and a willingness to embrace new ideas and techniques. I continuously researches and experiments with different aspects of photography, from set designs to lighting and equipment. This dynamic approach ensures that every JLC Imagery project is unique, and take pride in inspiring creativity among my team and clients.
JLC Imagery specializes in photography, design, and is branching into motion pictures. Our work is characterized by inspiring set designs, innovative images, and enlightening designs. We also have a passion for teaching our craft and have had the opportunity to share knowledge at institutions like Tennessee State University.
In summary, JLC Imagery is a company that thrives on creativity, constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in photography and design. We are commitment to innovation and our ability to adapt and learn have been key to our success in the industry. We still have walls to break through, but with our strong team and elite ability you will see JLC Imagery scrolling down the credits on your next favorite film.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I recommend saving and view sources that have everything to do with your business and direction. Use youtube, Instagram and sites that share insite to all the things your business handles. Once you have your saved inspiration, find ways to use what you got to shoot something. You have to shoot to get better. So even if you have to shoot your front yard or your neighborhood DO IT. After each shoot build, jump back on youtube and see what you did right, or wrong and build!! Keep building…
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Once upon a time in a bustling city, there was a small, cozy new guy names Jay, he was nestled in a corner of LA, known for his awesome high impact images. But there was one problem – hardly anyone knew about him.
Meet Jay, the owner of JLC Imagery. He had a lifelong passion for imagery and had spent years perfecting his craft. However, his images were overshadowed by bigger, more established competitors in the area. Jay knew he had something special to offer, but he needed to find a way to reach out to potential customers.
One sunny morning, Jay had an idea. he decided to leverage the power of word of mouth and the reach of social media to gain more customers. he started with Instagram, creating a beautiful profile of images, showcasing his eye catching images with professional photography. Each week, he posted pictures of freshly baked concepts, making sure to use relevant hashtags and tagging his location.
As the months passed, JLC Imagery’s customer base continued to grow. Jay’s dedication to Instagram, email marketing, and word of mouth had transformed his Images from a hidden gem into a beloved neighborhood institution. he learned that the most powerful marketing tool of all was not a billboard or a flashy advertisement but the genuine recommendation of satisfied customers.
And so, the story of JLC Imagery taught Jay a valuable lesson: in a digital age, a combination of beautiful visuals, online engagement, and good old-fashioned word of mouth could work wonders in turning a small business into a sweet success.
