We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ja’Wuan Skinner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ja’Wuan below.
Ja’Wuan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I feel like sometimes I do feel misunderstood because I’m not the typical rapper. I’m just me doing me. I had/have family member do their thing in the streets but I was always the fly in the wall with them. They taught me the real world and it’s grimy. You gotta do what you gotta do or you’ll get lost.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Nineaux. I’m a producer/artist a CEO of TRM Records. I provide services like record engineering or “beats” for other artists in the city. I’m just proud of doing what I love and what potential clients need to know about my brand is that it’s all about determination and getting whatever goal that needs to be done.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
There’s no just thing as “homie discounts.” My dad always told me your price is your price. Thought he was joking til it some people felt like I owe them something. But I know that theirs no just thing as “homie discount.”
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Just support their craft. No matter if they the higher rank or the underdog. Support their craft. That makes Artist keep going.
