We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jawanza Vickers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jawanza below.
Jawanza , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Growing up in the small towns of Enterprise, Alabama, and Pontiac, Michigan, Jawanza Vickers’ early life was shaped by some strong women and a passion for football. His talent on the field earned him a full scholarship to Alabama A&M University, where he combined his love for sports with a burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit. However, a stint in prison became a turning point in Jawanza’s life.
Determined to change his path, Jawanza moved to Atlanta after serving his time, with the goal of building an empire and establishing a creative marketing agency focused on the music and entertainment industry. Through perseverance and a dedication to innovation, Jawanza found success and soon expanded his endeavors by launching a podcast aimed at helping others transform their lives.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m known for being a hard worker who shows resilience in the face of challenges. I pride myself on creating quality content as well as great customer service.
What sets me apart is my commitment to understanding and believing in my clients visions. (making something out of nothing) I’m most proud of the trust people place in me to bring their ideas to life. For potential clients, followers and fans, I want them to know that I am dedicated to providing innovative and high-quality solutions that not only meet but exceed their expectations.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During my time in prison, I hit a major turning point in my life. I realized I had let down my loved ones and myself, so I decided to use that time to turn things around. It was a chance for me to get to know myself better and build a strong foundation that now helps me give back to society and inspire others to create lives they can be proud of. I couldn’t have done it without the grace and guidance of the Most High.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
My journey in the creative industry began with exploring graphic design for my own projects. As my work gained attention, people started inquiring about the talent behind the designs, and that’s when I realized the potential for growth. To meet the increasing demand, I broadened my skill set to include photography and videography, which opened doors to collaborations with high-profile clients and brands, significantly enriching my professional portfolio.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with influential figures like Iheart media’s program director DJ Loui Vee, and my work has been featured in well-known magazines, gracing book covers and billboards. Some of my designs are even displayed at renowned establishments like Jouvert Caribbean Kitchen in Buckhead and Reds Country Kitchen in Enterprise, Alabama.
I’ve also had the incredible opportunity to cover prominent events such as the Black Effect Podcasts, Breakfast Club, and One Music Fest, among others. These milestones have not only propelled my career forward but have allowed me to explore various creative avenues and connect with some good people.
