We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Javosski Rembert. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Javosski below.
Javosski , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Customer appreciation is key to running a successful business, if your customers aren’t satisfied, why would they return? Some return because they have no other choice at the time because of the service you’re providing. But if your customer has a chance to experience someone providing the same service as you, you may lose the customer because you showed little, to no appreciation at all.
I appreciate all my customers and I always say thank you! Thanking a customer after a transaction is a must, no one wants to spend their money with companies showing no appreciation at all.
Communicating with your customers is key as well. I’ve learned some customers are okay with delays, if you’re communicating with them. Bad communication allows your customers to find other companies to do business with. That’s why I do my best to show appreciation, making eye contact and shaking hands when needed, emailing or texting the customer when there’s a delay.
Sometimes you gain new customers through other people and I recently gained a new customer through a family member. The guy wanted to order a pair of shorts. I sent the shorts through the family member and I sent a free hoodie showing my appreciation. I received a call a week later from the guy who ordered the shorts. He started the conversation with “thank you for the sweater, it fits the mother of my child.” I was in shock at first because he told me he gave it a way, but he went on to say his name is David and the lion on the sweater I gave him really humbles him and he would like to purchase one for himself.
The fact that he wanted me to know that my apparel humbled him, made me feel great! In this situation both customer and owner felt appreciated.
Javosski , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Javosski Rembert, owner and operator of the BM collection. I am originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama and I moved to California in the late 80s with my mother and my brother. I grew up in Inglewood California, I graduated from Hawthorne high school in 1999. I attended El Camino College after high school for EMT training, after a couple years into the program I changed majors. I’ve always kept a foot in the medical field. I started at Robert F. Kennedy in Hawthorne after high school as a file clerk. Kennedy closed in 2004 and I moved on to further my career. In 2013, I graduated from KHIM academy with my C.C.S as a Certified Coding Specialist. As of today, I am still certified and working as an inpatient coder.
I’n 2015, I was in a car accident that could have left me paralyzed, but thank God I walked a way with only a fractured neck. This is the beginning of my better man journey. A six week neck injury took seven months to heal.
The Better man concept was created prior to my car accident and while recovering I decided to use the BM as the name of the business. Focusing on the message first, fashion second. “Real life over fashion” is one of my mottos. The BM collection was designed to inspire better mankind, including women & children. Better mental, Better spiritual, and Better physical. I believe, if we as individuals could focus on our own personal growth, this world would be a better place.
Better-U Better-Me Better-We!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Walking a way from a car accident with a fractured neck is when I witnessed my resilience as an adult. Although I don’t have any kids, I still have a family to provide for and during my recovery I had to prove that to myself and my family. And I did exactly that, I was told I would wear a halo on my head for six weeks. 6 weeks turned into three months in a halo and another three months in a neck brace. During that time I paid the mortgage two months in advance to show the family everything was okay!
Once I proved to myself and my family everything was okay. I had to rebuild myself again; mind, body and soul. A lot of emotions surfaced after my car accident that I dealt with while recovering from a neck injury. I dealt with the death of a loved one that passed years before I had the car accident, I guess it was my time to mourn.
Psychical therapy helped me rebuild my muscle memory and by the time I returned back to work, my muscles were bigger than before. Overcoming this situation showed me who I am and it showed me I’m capable of withstanding more than I know. And since that day, I’ve been on my better man.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
To be honest, I started my business with my personal income. I’ve always worked two jobs, the paychecks I received from my part time job, I used it to fund my business. Any and everything I needed came from my personal income. At this time I didn’t have a business account and I knew nothing about getting business loans. I woke up one day and said I want a business and I’ve been figuring it out every since I started.
I came into the business world with the double up mindset. I would buy a dozen of hats or a dozen of t-shirts and I would double my money and continue. What worked for me, may not work for others. Find your way and do what works best for you.
