We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Javon Bell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Javon below.
Javon, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
One of the most innovative things I’ve done in my career is ensuring accessibility in the websites and digital documents I create, making them easy for everyone to use, including those who need assistive technology. I’ve made it a priority to incorporate features that make it simple for these users to navigate through the content.
Think of it like this: just as we make signs bigger for people who need glasses to see better, I’ve made digital content friendlier and more accessible for those who rely on special tools. It’s important to me that everyone, regardless of their needs, can access information online. I’m proud of the work I’ve done to promote digital accessibility and make the online world more inclusive.
Javon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Bellaire Studio represents more than a web design and development studio; it’s a place where I passionately craft captivating digital experiences driven by compelling narratives. In 2018, I created Bellaire Studio to fully utilize my skills in design, strategy, and development to change how businesses present themselves in the digital landscape.
At Bellaire Studio, my primary focus is on enhancing user experiences. Whether it’s the creation of visually stunning websites, optimizing user interfaces, or developing innovative digital solutions, I am always excited to take on challenges head-on, one project at a time.
Through the infusion of storytelling into my design and development processes, I aim to create online experiences that not only possess aesthetic appeal but also resonate with your target audience.
My journey has been about defying the odds and rewriting the narrative. I want to inspire others to believe the same. For me, Bellaire Studio isn’t just about websites; it’s a platform for innovation in the digital world.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The most valuable source of new clients for Bellaire Studio has undoubtedly been word of mouth. From the very beginning, this organic form of referral has been a consistent and powerful driver of new business. In fact, I haven’t needed to actively seek out new clients through outreach efforts for several years, thanks to the unwavering support of past clients.
This support goes beyond recommendations; it’s a testament to the strong relationships I strive to build with each client. I make it a point to treat every client with the utmost respect and professionalism, viewing our collaboration as a partnership rather than a transaction. This approach is especially vital when clients come through referrals, as I recognize that the person who recommended me is putting their own reputation on the line.
When someone recommends Bellaire Studio, it’s a trust they place not just in the quality of the work but in the overall experience. I am deeply committed to living up to that trust. Every client, whether referred or not, receives the same level of respect and empathy throughout the entire project. This commitment is at the core of how I operate, ensuring that each client’s experience with Bellaire Studio is truly unforgettable. It’s a simple philosophy: treat everyone with respect, be empathetic, and deliver exceptional results.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Learning how to say “no” was a lesson I had to unlearn, and it came with an important backstory. In the early days, I found it difficult to turn down any opportunity that came my way because I was determined to keep the dream of Bellaire Studio afloat. I was driven by a deep desire to provide the highest quality of work to every client, regardless of the circumstances. I wanted to be the person who could solve every problem and fulfill every request, no matter how demanding it was.
However, I soon realized that this approach wasn’t sustainable. I was stretching myself thin, overcommitting, and trying to be there for everyone, which wasn’t realistic. It became evident that in doing so, I was compromising the quality of my work and, ironically, doing a disservice not just to myself but to my clients as well.
The turning point came when I recognized the importance of seeking the best fit for each client. This involved being realistic about my schedule and my capacity to take on new projects. It also meant setting clear objectives for each project to ensure its success. By learning to say “no” to projects that didn’t align with these criteria, I was able to focus my energy and expertise where it truly mattered.
This shift in mindset not only improved the quality of my work but also allowed me to deliver exceptional results for my clients. It prevented me from becoming overworked and busy, which could ultimately harm both my current and future opportunities.
In essence, unlearning the compulsion to always say “yes” taught me the importance of balance, setting boundaries, and prioritizing the best interests of both my clients and myself. It’s a valuable lesson that continues to guide my approach in ensuring the success of every project I undertake.
