We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Javier Chavez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Javier, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

It all started with a christmas gift in 2018. It was a present that i had really been wanting. The present was a gopro hero 6 and it was my first video camera i had ever owned. I had no idea on how to edit and type of videos nor did i know how to really make good videos. I started playing with it and filming everything which made me realize i needed to learn how to edit in order to actually make use of the footage. I am the type of person that will learn to do anything and get really invested in my hobbies. Soon after this i purchased my first drone which resulted in me making a youtube channel to help others learn to use the drone and go pro. I started uploading my videos on my youtube and doing reviews of products. Me creating my youtube channel was how my business name was created. Mavic Hero films. This was the combination of the Go pro HERO and the Dji MAVIC air. Over the course of the next two years, My video editing started improving dramatically and i started improving my cinematography skills. Little by little I started to get clients asking me to make videos for them and this is how my business came to be. My love for videography grew from here. The December 2020 came and this is when I filmed my first wedding which opened up a new type of clientele for my business. I knew that this would be the next growth in my business which resulted to being true. I loved all the small projects that helped me get confident enough to start taking wedding gigs.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am a creative videographer that enjoys making content for any type of client. I enjoy pushing the limit when it comes to the content i make by trying new editing techniques, having the best equipment to help me do so and by collaborating with. my clients in order to make their visions come to life.

My wedding side of the business is focused on providing exceptional services and creating the most memorable wedding film that my couples will fall in love watching. I take extreme pride in customer service. This is extremely important and more so when it comes to filming the big day for a couple. I know that planning for a wedding can be stressful for couples so my goal is to make my experience with that as easy going and stress free as possible. I strive to make their film emotional, story driven and artful in the cinematography.

When it comes to my other clients, Pre planning and delivery is just as important. From concept to reality , i know how important it is for clients needing video work to be able to convey a message through video to attract customers, spread awareness and create a following.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

I think what helped me was the consistency and quality of my work. Anytime i would create a video for a project I made sure to make it to the best of my ability even if it meant spending more time editing than i needed to. Eventually word got around about the attention to detail that i provided and I started getting referrals.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

I was gifted a book by my District manager in my sales job called ” The 4 disciplines of excellence” This book really helped me learn how to set goals and strategize in order to attain them.
