Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Javanna Kimberly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Javanna, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Before starting a coaching brand, I owned a kids boutique but I never understood the concept of a brand or branding. Within 3 years, I was changing the direction of my boutique over and over again from kids to women apparel. For some reason, as a newbie in the e-commerce industry, I thought that a logo, website, and inventory equated to a “brand”. In fact, I never referred to my boutique as a brand but as a small business. After balancing my momma duties, full-time college courses, and a new entrepreneurial endeavor, I’ve realized receiving my college degree didn’t excite me the way that I thought it would. In that moment, I’ve realized that I was called to do something bigger with my life. Fast forward to the summer of 2023, I had this light bulb moment to help moms build purposeful brands. The more I sat with the Lord, the more I gained clarity around this idea. I’ve realized that my ups and downs throughout the years weren’t just for me, but were preparing me to serve moms like me. I quickly realized that there were moms just like me, who were stay at home moms with big visions but were overlooked by the industry. As a stay at home mom for the past 12 years, I understood the feeling of being overlooked and unappreciated for your hard work in the home. I also can relate to the longing to want to embrace your passions beyond the home, despite your daily duties. Starting a coaching brand to help mom coaches and service providers build purposeful brands was a worthwhile endeavor because I understood the impact they would make in the world. Living a life with purpose goes beyond your home, but impacts everyone that you connect with. Shifting the narrative from SAHM to Balanced Momma Maven is a movement to show society that moms can balance building a brand while caring for babies.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Javanna Kimberly, a Brand and Mindset Coach. I help mom coaches and service providers craft purposeful brands with strategic positioning, messaging, and identity. All of my offers are client-centered to focus on meeting the needs of moms while they pursue building their brand. Every coaching program and service is tailored to ensure that my client is receiving assistance with position clarity, messaging mastery, and identity crafting. What sets my brand apart from others within the industry is my willingness to focus on the demands of motherhood. I understand the time that it takes to care for children, while prioritizing time to build a brand; therefore I consider time constraints when working with clients. One thing that makes me proud is my dedication to help moms build a brand rooted in purpose to avoid confusion, wasting money, and time. When I stepped into entrepreneurship, I’ve made several mistakes that could have easily been avoided. Some of my shortcomings that I recall are things like: not identifying my audience, building a visual identity based on my personality, not considering my competition, and trying to look like other brands. I’m happy that I was able to turn lemons into lemonade for the moms that I serve. My journey has been tough, and my experiences has equipped me to serve them from a personal perspective as a mom.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson that I had to unlearn was that college isn’t the road for everyone. No matter how good you are in school, it’s more important to follow your purpose. Following your purpose and using your gifts and talents to build a brand unlocks a life of true happiness and impact. As I’ve mentioned earlier, I have been on a journey to graduate college for years and at the end of the road, I felt a lack of fulfillment. We are created to create and I believe that everything that you need is within you. Building a brand based on your authenticity starts with understanding who you are and what you’re meant to birth into the world. Societal pressure pushes you as a young girl to pursue an occupation that serves big corporations, while dismantling your dreams and creativity. As a result, you become a mom doing all you can to survive to care for your babies, losing your true identity, and throwing away your vision. As a mom, who went the traditional route and accomplished society’s view on “success”, I’m here to help moms shift that narrative to become who they were truly designed to be.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Facing several challenges as a stay at home mom with three babies and working towards personal development required a high degree of resilience. Whether it was the daily therapy sessions for my son, the homeschooling, or endless burn out from keeping my home; I’ve overcame every obstacle meant to destroy my future. Shifting the perspective of these experiences opened my eyes to share a testimony that would empower moms to keep going. There have been times that I could have gave up, yet I chose to push through and made it to the other side. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from those hurdles that get in your way. While being a stay at home mom is a rewarding role, building a brand beyond the home has given me something to embrace for my family as well as others. Becoming a balanced momma maven is knowing that you have babies to raise while building a brand simultaneously with grace.
