We were lucky to catch up with Javane Nugent recently and have shared our conversation below.
Javane, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
The best investment I ever made was acquiring a life insurance license. The story takes place in my apartment 1 month from me securing my Bachelors degree I truly wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do next in life but by the grace of god a opportunity to impact many lives was given to me and I took it. A simple $80 dollar investment turned into numerous blessings down the line. I made the decision because I wanted to truly be able to educate people and help them attain wealth financially and be able to leave a lasting legacy
Javane, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a proud Ethiopian descendant with deep Jamaican roots, I’ve always found strength in my heritage and the values passed down to me: resilience, compassion, and community. My academic journey led me to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, with minors in Psychology and Sociology, driven by a passion for understanding people and the systems that shape their lives. But what I discovered along the way was this: far too many individuals, especially in underrepresented communities, struggle with financial security and planning for the future.
That realization fueled my transition into the life insurance industry. For me, it’s more than just policies and premiums—it’s about helping people take control of their financial story. Life is unpredictable, and I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to be prepared for the unexpected. Through my work, I aim to empower others to build wealth, protect what matters most, and create a legacy that lasts long after they’re gone.
I understand the complexities people face because I’ve walked a similar path. My mission is to make these conversations about wealth and protection accessible to everyone, no matter where you are in life. It’s not just about numbers—it’s about peace of mind and knowing that your loved ones will be cared for, no matter what.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When I started Nugent Financial, I knew I wanted to reach people where they already spend time on social media. But I also knew that building an audience would take more than just posting products or services. It had to be about storytelling, education, and connection. I wanted to create a space where people could feel empowered to learn about financial wellness, wealth building, and the importance of life insurance, even if they’d never thought about these things before.Authenticity Wins: People can tell when you’re being real versus when you’re just trying to sell them something. Sharing my story my background, the challenges, and the wins helped people connect with me and my brand on a personal level.
Provide Value First: Educational content performs really well. People are more likely to follow and engage if they feel like they’re learning something useful.
Social media is a two-way street. I made it a habit to reply to comments, respond to DMs, and interact with other accounts. Building relationships is key.
Use Visuals and Video: I found that videos whether it’s quick tips, Q&A sessions, or behind-the-scenes glimpses perform better than static posts. It gives people a face and voice to connect with.
Pick 1-2 platforms where your ideal audience is most active. It’s better to do a great job on one platform than stretch yourself too thin across five.
Find Your Voice: Don’t try to be like everyone else. Think about what makes you and your brand unique, and lean into that.
Show Up, Even When It’s Slow: In the beginning, it will feel like no one is paying attention and that’s okay. Keep posting and engaging. The audience will come.
