We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Javan Plummer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Javan below.
Javan, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
I feel great I have a wonderful support system around me. I think asking for help is appropriate within reason. Currently I am in competition for a tv show slot in “The Fashion Hero” a different kind of beautiful. I have been asking for my supporters, friends , and loved ones to help me by voting on The Fashion Hero website. I don’t ask for a lot but when I do it is because the opportunity that I have been presented is greater than the risk of asking for the help.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
So I got into the Entertainment Industry in 2018 at the age of 19. I was influenced into getting out of my comfort zone while working at a movie theatre. We had some well know public figures come in often and seeing and meeting them and just being around movies 5 days out of the week really got me interested into what if I really could make something out of myself In the entertainment world. I think my initiative and determination sets me apart. For example, last fall I was working on the set of a Netflix film and I was originally attached to the project as a 1st AD. While on the set we needed extra hands but didn’t have it so I ended up learning lighting, some sound, and I’ve had PA experience so I helped them with that as well. My work ethic has shown to be my best personal feature. Honestly I would say this film that will be coming out in 2023 on Netflix and Amazon has been my most proudest accomplishment aside from a play I was featured in this past summer. I learned so much from these two projects and will carry both with me for the rest of my career.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My social media presence has always been a big goal of mine. During Covid, I took some time away from social media. This year I’ve gotten back to it and my supporter have been great and supportive. I enjoy showing my life good or bad to show others that they aren’t alone. I want to inspire others through my career, that individually we CAN make a difference. I built my social media presence by posting consistently and engaging with fans and supporters. The advice I would give to those trying to build their presence is post often so you’re being seen friendly not randomly. When posting, post engaging content that makes your audience think or want to answer a question that you attached to the post. Marketing is another great tool. I boost my posts and I turn I am seen by a bigger audience. Last advice I would give when posting that can help build your audience is hashtags. It’s a good thing to put 3-5 hashtags on your post that are well searched or followed. If your serious about building your social media presence be sure to check insights often to see your views, engagements and interactions.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Social Media. During my career so far social media has been a big part in building my brand and reputation. Social media gives viewers an insight of your life and what you’re up to. When working a job, social media handles are usually exchanged between cast mates. Reputation and how people depict you is important. Most of the time I get dms or calls from cast mates I’ve worked with offering me a part in something there working on or letting me in on a jump into the casting for something they have been casted for. I like the reputation that I have grown and plan in building it more.
