We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jausalynn King. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jausalynn below.
Alright, Jausalynn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
Before Jaus of Vern there was a career in fine dinning. I say career, because there are so many out there who make serving/waitressing their career, or they move into management. I really thought that was my trajectory. I was passionate. I was knowledgeable. I began to dabble in bar service, hosting pop-up bars for family friends. I’ve always had a passion for cooking, and aesthetics so I thought maybe catering small events would be something I’d try. All in all, I thought food & beverage was my forever home.
It is very interesting to me that I found flowers, because my role of bring people together for their most special days and events is still the same. The pressure is still the same. At the restaurant I spent my twenties in, a table of two will easily approach $400, it’s not exactly Michelin-star expensive, but it’s more than the average person is willing to pay for a meal. Therefore there is a set of expectations, and a level of communication, and technique that is expected. That Directly translates into the wedding world, as sometimes weddings are the first large expense a couple engages in together, and even if the parents are fronting the bill there is a level of extreme expectation, and rightfully so.
Table side there are steps to service: the introduction, moments to check in, ways to add special touches, and customizations, moments for feedback. Following service steps and developing procedures how Jaus of Vern aims to build trust with our clients. The importance of gaining a clients trust is what I believe to be the most important skill/ lesson I have learned from my time in food service. Once trust is established the rest of the process flows with ease.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Jaus, and artful events florist in Southern California. As a young person I was always into flowers. I would make arrangements for family and friends. I never went to someone’s house or celebration empty handed.
I got my start four years ago via Instagram. I was following a bunch of flower accounts and one of them had posted about needing freelancers, “no experience necessary” and from that day on I kept showing up to jobs. Soon I would begin to seek freelance opportunities with various companies, and about a year and half later I formed Jaus of Vern, pronounced, “House of Vern.”
Vern is my mom’s childhood nickname. She and I would always redecorate her friend’s homes and host parties, so it was only fitting that I name this creative endeavor of bringing people together after her.
What sets me apart is my team player mentality, my enthusiasm for the industry, and the way I blend colors together through intentional flower placement.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding moment for me is getting to see the photos knowing that I played a small role in a beautiful love story. I love love. I always have, I always will. It’s an honor to be trusted with bringing together a Client’s vision. The trust they have in my work is beyond fulfilling.
Further, The confidence I have found from forging you path in such a creative space is something I am forever grateful for.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
It’s wild, but I haven’t exactly “gone after” the work in an intense way. I would say my journey has been very organic with the help of Instagram, and personal connections. When it comes to Instagram -stay diligent, stay consistent, and use it to engage with others! In doing this I think you will see a beautiful return on your invested time.
