We recently connected with Jaswant Shrestha and have shared our conversation below.
Jaswant, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Since I was 4 years old, I wanted to be an actor. Those movies projected on those big screens made a lasting impression on me, and after growing up, I wanted to make that impact.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Besides from Acting, I have been Producing and Directing music videos and documentaries back in Nepal and India. So naturally, I started my production company, Creative Heights Entertainment, in Los Angeles, and we have produced two Docu-Series. Our first series was “FESTIVALS,” which was acquired by Discovery Channel and bagged multiple Emmy nominations and our first Emmy Win. The other new project we just wrapped post-production is an Exploration show, “ON A QUEST: with Jaswant.” filmed in Portugal.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After four times US VISA rejections over the years, I could finally get one and move to Los Angeles in 2011 to fulfill my dream of working in Hollywood. The English language was the biggest hurdle for me in the beginning. Acting classes and workshops were a lot of fun. Audition rooms were daunting, and rejection was and has become my constant companion.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal at this point in my career is to find and bring unique stories from different parts of the world to the audiences, help shed light on their culture, and hopefully bring much-needed attention and positive changes that the people living those lives want.
