We were lucky to catch up with Jasper Tay recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasper, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
In 2020, my team and I secured our first show at one of the most prominent nightclubs in San Francisco. Shortly after, Covid-19 happened. As an event promotion and artist development company, we rely on live events to build our brand and presence in the electronic music scene in the Bay Area. Without seeing a light at the end of this ongoing pandemic, Nyall James, CEO of Dirty Not Sorry, and I sat down virtually and restructured our promotional strategies to keep our fans and communities engaged. As a result, we started an ongoing weekly live stream on Twitch to share our continuous love for electronic music in these challenging times. I remember shouting on the Mic vividly saying “Show me those emojis in the chat!”. As a DJ myself, I rely on live engagement to figure out what song to play next in the clubs. Virtually, it’s hard to gauge whether online listeners are enjoying the music. This is a crazy experience I will never forget!
Fast forward to 2023, we kept up with our weekly traditions of organizing Twitch livestreams as a way to network with new and upcoming artists in the United States, Asia, and beyond. We worked with 300+ artists with releases from notable labels like Mau5trap, Spinnin’ Records, Insomniac Records, and more. Through live streams, we were able to get in contact with other venues in San Francisco, and now they are our valued partners in hosting live events throughout the Bay Area!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jasper Tay aka DJ JAXX T, COO of Dirty Not Sorry. Dirty Not Sorry is an event promotion and artist development company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our mission as a company is to connect people through music. Before the pandemic hit, we hosted our first-ever in-person live event before we had to pivot into doing livestreams. Today, we are an organization that produces 40-5o yearly in-person live music experiences that bring in thousands of attendees throughout San Francisco. Notable electronic music artists that we worked with in the past were Benny Benassi, Jauz, and Oliver Heldens, to name a few.
Before Dirty Not Sorry, I was formerly the musical consultant for MYST Shanghai (DJ Mag Ranked #41 Nightclub in 2018). I am also the official supporting DJ for Grammy-nominated artists like Jhené Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign, and Sheila E. If you’d love to get in touch, send me a DM on Instagram.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
There are two types of content marketers post on social media, promotional content and value-added content. Promotional content provides information about your business, product, or service offerings. Value-added content informs, entertains, and educates your audience.
For Dirty Not Sorry, we put out 40-50 live events yearly. Our team produced more than 100+ promotional content such as Promo Flyers, Promo Videos, and more to sell event tickets to our followers on all social media platforms – predominantly Instagram. Once an in-person event is live, we will get brand ambassadors, DJs, and Event promoters to share our promotional assets with their followers via social to generate awareness.
Given that we are an entertainment provider, our value-added content revolves around music memes, ticket & bottle giveaways, Music Mashup Medleys, and more. This type of content usually generates higher engagement as it’s something that partygoers relate to and benefit from.
Canva and Hootsuite are two tools we use heavily at Dirty Not Sorry to generate creative assets and schedule social media posts. Highly recommend small and upcoming music collectives to give them a try!
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
In 2018, I met Nyall James, now CEO of Dirty Not Sorry, through an event I organized in San Francisco. Ever since then, we have become good friends as we both share a passion for live events, nightlife, and DJing. As we look forward to the future, we started partnering up in DJing through club residencies. Throughout the years, we started meeting like-minded folks and brought in two additional business partners, Cat Liu, and Ariel Filane, into the journey of event promotions and DJing.
As we all came together, we spent countless hours hopping on Zoom meetings to curate the next entertainment provider in San Francisco, we landed with the name Dirty Not Sorry – expanding the dirty spectrum of electronic music in San Francisco and beyond.
