Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jason Yungbluth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jason, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Possibly one of the most meaningful things I have done is to keep one of my oldest creations– a Garfield-inspired comic strip I began when I was twelve–alive for four decades! Through stapled, homemade comics onto high school and college newspapers and self-published comic books those characters have persisted no matter how many times I have tried to kill them off!
Although this entity has never made me any money, it has nonetheless inspired various other successful aspects of my career, and I am kind of glad that this childhood project continues to evolve even into my later years.
Jason, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jason Yungbluth, and I am a cartoonist and illustrator who has done work for numerous clients, newspapers and magazines (MAD Magazine being my most well-known gig). I also publish my own graphic novels and have earned some web-fame for my creations Weapon Brown and Clarissa.
I have been cartooning since I was a child and refused to learn any valuable skills that would ever distract me from cartooning as a career. In a zombie apocalypse I will be the first man devoured, but I will leave behind some great comics for the Walking Dead to enjoy!
I think my willingness to take risks and rush in where angels fear to tread with my writing and subject matter is the most distinguishing feature of my work. I am not afraid to mix humor and tragedy in interesting ways, and I love a well-crafted surprise.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Loving what I do for a living.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are a hilariously obvious fraud and the people who buy them deserve every ounce of poverty that will be the inevitable result of their mistake.
