We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jason Young. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jason below.
Jason, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I want to create beautiful gardens with exclusively native plants that can be enjoyed for generations to come.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always enjoyed gardening. After having a friend point out invasive plants in my woods I decided to remove them. Shortly after that the native plants started to return. I knew then I wanted to start gardening with them. I started growing them from seed and got really good at it. I had another friend tell me I should start a business selling them. I have grown to more than just native plants now. I’m making raised garden beds, and getting into vegetables and herbs.
I’m collecting pallets from local warehouses nearby to create raised gardens beds. This helps the local businesses get rid of their waste and diverts waste from our landfills. These gardens beds are absolutely stunning!
I’m also growing heirloom herbs and vegetables. Heirloom seeds can be regrown next year unlike many of the vegetable and herbs on the market today.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I currently use Etsy for selling bare root natives when they are dormant. I chose Etsy because I like that it is geared for small business and home hobbyist. I do have plans to start my own website soon and start selling there.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Instagram. I really enjoy posting my wildflower pictures and gardens I’m building. It has helped me connect with local costumers who are looking for native plants.
