We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jason Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jason, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Growing up I was raised by a single mom, my mom worked so hard to keep food on the table and ensured we had a place to stay. She was a hustler and always dreamed about bigger and better things for us. Even after my mom would come home from working hours and hours to make sure we were living comfortably she would always find time to make sure she motivated me and spent time with me. Once I got older I started to realize and appreciate how much she did for me, especially after the fact she was a single mother. She liked to say the term “hungry” as she wanted to keep moving and going until she can’t anymore, and I took note of that. She would always talk to me about friends, relationships, and business. These talks help me become the man I am today, and I never looked back since. She told me that “everyone should have a vision” and that everyone should see themselves doing something in the future and have something to work hard for that motivates them to keep going. I would like to think that my mom is my best friend, my role model, and my parent all wrapped in one, and I own everything that I’m doing and have achieved thanks to her.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Man uhh wow ok ok I honestly don’t know where to start, I guess we can begin with the name. My brand name is “Jay Vision” Jay Vision is a clothing brand and photography business that is run by myself Jason Williams Jr. Let’s start with the clothing brand section of the business but before I get into the now I have to bring up the idea and the beginning of how all this came about. It was the beginning of 2021 and I knew I wanted to start taking photography seriously I was in a knot struggling to find a name and a logo for the upcoming chapter in my life. I kept this vision board in my office where you put all the things you wanna achieve and accomplish on a board and once you finally achieve it you take it off the wall and you keep going until the wall is empty. It’s a way to keep you motivated and wanting to accomplish more in your life and I encourage everyone to do this. So back to the story while I was In this knot I called my mom thinking she would have any advice on what I should do. She told me “I’m sure you will figure it out have you taken anything off your vision board jay”? Once she finished that sentence I knew I had the name for the next chapter of my life. After that, I hit up my graphic designer and asked them to make this retro JV logo and add the “Jay Vision” text that everyone knows of now I branded it and that’s how I got the name and logo. When it comes to the clothing part of the business it was never my goal to make clothes at all it’s something I started doing by complete accident. I asked one of my family members if they could make me a costume black shirt with my logo on it she told me that I should honestly do something more with this logo and once I opened up this business the shirts were taking off and I couldn’t believe it. Starting this brand made me such a happy person while also creating so many new opportunities and I never looked back since.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I always say create something or a style that you and only know is known for. I know that sounds like being original which is hard because everything has been done before but the way you wanna grow a following is by being different from the crowd. Creating has always been about showing your vision and your art to the world, and I feel that to grow you must create something that only you are known for. Once people start noticing your work the audience will follow after.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part to me is when your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. Small things like other creators reaching out or referring you to others. That stuff motivates me more and more to keep pushing forward and wanna do more for myself and more for the people who support me.
