Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jason Soto. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jason thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I feel podcasts and being a podcasters gets unfairly lumped in with all the “bros” who like to spread their toxic opinions. When I tell people I have podcasts and run a podcast network, their first thought turn to Joe Rogan and feel like I’m gonna mansplain things to them. I have to constantly reassure people that we do pop culture podcasts talking about movies, tv shows, music, and celebrities in general and we do not spread any negativity, unless we didn’t like something, and even then it’s all in good fun.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started listening to podcasts in the mid-2000’s and thought they were fascinating! ANYBODY can do this?! How can I do this? And I was thinking you needed a whole studio set up with professional microphones and equipment and whatnot, so I never thought I could do it. Then around 2010, a friend of mine created a podcast called The LAMBcast and asked me to be a guest. After being told I simply needed a USB mic and some headphones, a switch went off in my head and I hit the ground running. I created a b-movie podcast called The Lair of the Unwanted with my friend Nolahn and we did that for almost 10 years. Since then, I created a podcast network called Rabbit Hole Podcasts which focuses on pop culture media, including movies, tv shows, and music. I have several awesome people hosting these various shows and we all work together brilliantly. We’re a small dysfunctional family!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Honestly, word of mouth is still the best way to spread the word about anything to do. Hitting the like button is easy. Hitting “share” is easy. Telling people “hey, this podcast I listen to just covered a movie I forgot about! You should give it a listen!”

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
When someone tells me they loved to hear my point of view on something or got them to think about something they haven’t considered before. Also when people can turn to anything I’ve worked on and they tell me if comforted them in some way.
