We recently connected with Jason Queen and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason , thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I had been on staff at a mega church serving at a Central Director level, helping lead our five campuses in the student ministry lane.
When I started talking about the need to speak life over students in schools, and writing books & curriculum, it led to a conversation that became a fork in the road moment for me. I would have to choose to continue in ministry and bury these dreams God placed in my heart, or take a leap of faith, and do what I was created to do with my life. It became clear organizationally, I couldn’t do both. With a large family, this was not only a huge risk, but also a defining moment for me.
I chose to chase after my dreams and walk away from the ministry role to continue to pursue what God placed in me to do. It has been exciting, challenging, fulfilling, scary, and life giving all at the same time.
Now I get to speak at schools and get to make an even bigger impact with my life. I believe the best is yet to come, and I would encourage anyone who has a dream in their heart to chase after it, no matter the cost. Go do what you were created to do with your life!
Jason , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been a student specialist for the last 2 decades. Now I’m a Youth Motivational Speaker, Mentor and Mindset Coach. I spend a lot of time helping schools take students from “at risk” to rising stars!
Here’s my basic bio that you would see on my website or any promotional materials…
Growing up, Jason experienced a lot of life challenges. All of that led to failing classes fighting, being labeled, drug and alcohol abuse, foster homes, and programs for at risk youth.
During his motivational speeches at schools, he shares what changed his life, and how students can move forward too! Incorporating many of the same beliefs and principles that helped him, he went on to inspire thousands of other students with his message. Jason’s passion and life’s work for the past 20 years has been to mentor students & adults alike, so they can overcome adversity to become the best version of themselves and elevate their lives.
Jason is an incredible communicator and an authority in the student speaking world. With two decades of experience as a youth specialist, he has the knowledge and expertise necessary to connect with students in a meaningful and clear way. He knows how to explain complicated topics in a way that resonates with students and encourages them to engage and learn. His track record of success speaks for itself, and his enthusiasm for students is infectious.
Jason is an incredible role model for students who are facing adversity. He has been able to help hundreds of students overcome and elevate their lives despite the challenges they face. His dedication and commitment to helping students reach their goals is truly inspiring. He exemplifies the power of perseverance and determination, and his work is a testament to the importance of having the right support system in place. He is a champion for all students facing hardship, and his guidance and advice will continue to benefit future generations.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
In my field, it’s all about authenticity and truly caring about students, their families, and the educators who lead them every day with a desire to see them truly elevate their lives and succeed. I believe every “at-risk” youth has the potential to become a rising star on their campus and in life.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Not at all. The journey has made me who I am and I wouldn’t trade any of it. To me the next generation isn’t gen z or alpha, they are generation hope and leaders of today! There’s nothing more rewarding than watching the lightbulb go off in the life of a student when they start to finally believe in themselves and realize they can achieve their dreams!
