We were lucky to catch up with Jason Pitts recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jason, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
This new film, The Forest Through The Trees, was a huge personal risk. The value of my home more than doubled, and I saw the equity in the house.
I took a 2nd mortgage to pay for the film. It was a calculated risk, because I believed in myself and my team.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in the 80’s watching all the great horror films of that era, and it has always been part of who I am. I always felt that horror was so creative, and the genre and filmmaking in general captured my imagination. I went to college at The University of North Texas and earned my degree in Radio, Television, and Film.
I started small with short films that you can find on Tubi. Alone and Masquerade. I slowly built a passionate and positive team around me, and we recently decided to attempt a feature film.
It is called “The Forest Through The Trees”. It will be released later this year, 2025.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of producing and directing film is to champion the artists around me. It’s so important to make each one of them feel heard and that they contributed to the final version of the film. This gives them the confidence they need to go on to other projects and own their craft and grow as artists. It is so rewarding to watch the team flourish, not just on our projects, but on others.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
We need more support. In a social media works, we need our work talked about and shared. We need more of our friends and family to share and push our work to more people.
