We recently connected with Jason Lesly and have shared our conversation below.
Jason, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Let me start by sharing that my mother’s name is Rose, and red roses are her favorite flowers. She always cherished receiving flowers while I was growing up, but buying them became costly. As I got older, I started making arrangements using flowers from places like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. Even after moving out, I continued this practice. An old friend suggested I record my arrangement-making process for TikTok to establish a social presence. The feedback was positive, and soon people began approaching me for arrangements. That’s essentially how “Jason Lesly” came to be.

Jason, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From a young age, I’ve been drawn to creativity, delving into art, fashion, and music. In college, I co-founded a brand called OOTO (Out of the Ordinary), celebrating unique individuals who stood out through fashion, music, and art. Amidst this, I launched my own line, ‘Ya$Pieces,’ crafting customized beaded bracelets. The name ‘Ya$Pieces’ originates from a nickname (Yasonati) given to me by friends who noticed a transformation in my style and demeanor. Through vendor events and collaborations, I expanded my clientele and even had my jewelry worn by celebrities. However, I faced setbacks when unable to fulfill custom orders, leading me to halt production in 2017.During 2018-2021, I explored various ventures, including assisting emerging brands with their creative processes, but found it less fulfilling. Rooted in my lifelong knack for reselling, I embraced entrepreneurship and continued my tradition of crafting arrangements after finally moving out on my own in 2021.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’m currently in a transitional phase, noticing many friends settling into marriage, parenthood, and careers, while I’m still navigating my path. It’s like the sentiment in Kanye’s “Welcome to Heartbreak” lyrics, where I can relate to showing pictures of aspirations rather than tangible accomplishments. Despite this, my faith has strengthened recently, guiding me back to a sense of home. Proverbs 16:9 resonates with me, reminding me that while I plan, it’s ultimately the divine direction that shapes my journey. I’ve developed a profound belief in myself, recognizing that my endeavors extend beyond personal ambitions; I see myself as a vessel showcasing the beauty of God’s work to the world.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Reflecting on this question, I realize that my life embodies resilience. Despite harboring doubts and starting projects without finishing them, I’ve always remained creative. This time around, however, I feel a newfound clarity in my vision, confident that I’m finally on the right path.
