We recently connected with Jason Kephart and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jason thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
One of the greatest parts of Sasquatch Overlanding is the fact that we are a travel and adventure-based business. This means we travel to explore and set up other trips for those who are looking for places unique to visit or camp. We also lead groups on some trips to different places around the United States to allow others the chance to not have to plan out a large adventure. The biggest perk of this is that we get to have vacations at the same time!

Jason , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So, we are adventure-based. Meaning we go out and explore different areas of the United States. Mostly the great outdoors but at the same time we love to stop and see the different sights along the way. We then in turn help others get out and explore based on our recommendations and travel plans. We also lead different levels of off-roaders on adventures to different places around the United States.
When we are not doing this then we are giving back to different charities and helping to build the Tread Lightly mindset at different parks and forests. One of the many ways that we do all of this is through social media and public outreach. We are more in the business of helping others get out into nature and explore the world from a different perspective. At the same time, we help raise funds for different groups from the industry.
While we are based out of Central Indiana, each year from around the end of February until around December then we travel to different parts of the U.S. This may be to go to different events to be participants, or to check out an area to see what we can recommend to others, or to run our event or trip that we are leading and providing expert off the road and travel help.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One of the biggest aspects of building in our market is really just getting out and doing different events locally. Networking has been the biggest help to build our reputation. At the same time, we won’t just take on a task unless we know we can deliver what those who have come to expect from us. Social media is another great tool that is used to make the initial connection and to gain attention from others, but the best way is in-person networking to not only show off our adventure rigs but get to really meet people and see what they are looking for.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For us, the best strategy that we have had for growing our clientele is that of hosting free introduction events where we just get together and invite those who are just getting into Overlanding or Camping. From here we run a simple trip and end at a campground where we all get together and enjoy the weekend. This has been the best way to drive new clientele for us and also allow us to get out to others around the country.
