We recently connected with Jason ‘J Hatch’ Hadshian and have shared our conversation below.
Jason ‘J Hatch’, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission has always been related to the advocacy of up and coming music creators. I have been a part of so many unique experiences that’s allowed me to build meaningful relationships & a vast knowledge of all things in the music and business space. Its special to me because I always feel like there is so much misinformation in this industry and that people with no experience have become a part of the problem by giving out false notions on what success looks like. I like it to be personal, intimate and geared towards the goals of creatives, even though sometimes they don’t know what their journey and or destination may look like yet
Jason ‘J Hatch’, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the music industry originally as an artist and got misled by my management which led to me giving up and going back to a full time job. At this job I excelled rapidly due to my work ethic and got promoted 18 times in 8 years and mastered a solid skill set such as organization, compartmentalization, communication and planning [to name a few] that I were extremely helpful as an entrepreneur.
I have been self employed for 23 years now and along the way I have created businesses and brands that have helped thousands of music creator in many ways from building relationships, providing real life work experience and advoce and removinbg the VIP rope between them and industry movers and shakers. I have managing grammy winning multi platinum producers like Focus…of aftermath [Eminem, Kendrick Lamarr, The Game, Beyonce’ 7 more], denaun Porter [of D12, Producer for Eminem, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg & Roye Da 5’9 & more] and well as Kaydence [singer songwriter for Ariana Grande, Beyonce’, Brandy, Blxst & more]. I also have been a project manager for SXSW, AScap ‘I Create Music’ Expo, A3C Hip Hop festival & more. My current brand Creative Space is a platform where we do song camps for up & coming creatives in 12 cities in US, Canada & Europe where we bring in industry heavy hitters to educate & mentor. I partnered with 2 previous employees of mine to start MadeByUs Music, a one stop sync library and have had almost 200 placements in the last year with NBC, ESPN, Apple TV+, Peacock and more as well.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I dissolved my previous business istandard the week of the covid pandemic in March 2021 due to Creative differences with my business partner of 15 years. Once covid shut down the world and everyone was stationary, I had to figure out what I wanted to do to make an income, solidify my name in the music industry and continue to create opportunities for music makers.
It was tough but I had taken an existing event and reformatted it for online purposes. Luckily the tech brands and previous sponsors of my live events. were also in the same boat and thought my idea would help provide visibility for their products.
I started an event called ‘The Long Run’ which was a 6 hour producer showcase online in which every hour 10 producers played 2 beats and got verbal feedback from grammy winning, multi platinum producers like Rockwilder, Focus…., Fuse [of 808 Mafia] and Cool & Dre.
The winner with highest score took home a nice prize package of speakers, sound packs, and much more. BUT the kicker was we had a few producers that caught the ears of the judges and made a lasting impression which lead to collaborations, production deals that led to major label work, priceless opportunities AND a grammy nod.
Once producers saw the value, and once the pandemic disappeared and live events came back, we continued the live events and we continued to replicate with similar successes.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Something I don’t really make public with exception for motivational purposes is that I have Stage 4 Colon & Liver Cancer.
I was diagnosed in Sept 2021. the 1st 4 months of chemo almost killed me but my family, my care team and I would NOT allow any thoughts other then to fight this tooth and nail.
I did my first post cancer event in July 2021 and I have not stopped since. It’s only grown and expanded since.
I do chemo every 2 weeks and my body continues to fight, cancer continues to shrink and god continues to watch over me.
I refuse to give up, I learned to live with it. My health is always first now. That will never change.
in 2024/25 I have plans to start a non for profit advocating for mental strength and cancer research.
