We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jason Hennessey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jason, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?

As a business owner, I believe it’s essential to recognize the importance of work/life balance and the benefits of taking a vacation. While it can be challenging to step away from your business, doing so is crucial for your long-term success because it provides an opportunity to recharge, think creatively outside of normal office setting, connect with family, and reduce burnout. I am grateful for the team I have in place to delegate responsibilities while I’m away. There’s no better gift you can give yourself, your family, your clients, and your team!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

One significant instance of adaptation in my business journey involved our shift towards sustaining and scaling growth within our digital marketing agency. While optimizing SEO for individual websites proved to be relatively straightforward, the real challenge emerged when we sought to establish an internal structure to support maintaining effective SEO across a multitude of client sites. It required organizational structure, hiring, and creating SOPs. This strategic pivot paved the way for the remarkable expansion of Hennessey Digital, and today, we are proud to have a team of over 125 dedicated employees as a testament to this transformation.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

Having a business coach has been a transformative experience for my entrepreneurial thinking and business leadership. His guidance and expertise has provided me with invaluable insights, helping me navigate challenges and opportunities with a clearer vision. I chose him because I wanted to grow my business, and he had already achieved that success making him equipped to guide me.
