We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jason Harris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jason, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Since 2005 I’ve been a music producer. Around 2011 I took a risk that left me homeless. Kicker is I was homeless down the street from the Orlando Magic, Full Sail University, and a professional recording studio at the time. I COULDN’T SEE MY BLESSING! After returning to Little Rock, Arkansas to rebuild the plan executing in a different way. I bought a camera to film music videos to realize I didn’t enjoy the process. Took a leap into youth sports and as of today I’ve landed a film job with CYM, Celebrity Realty, and Dyvyne Events located in Dallas, Texas. I utilize sports as a platform to meet singers/rappers/producers I’ve wanted to work with for years, allowing me the opportunity to advertise my video and music production skills. Instead of just being a sports videographer, I take pride in networking with Pro/College Scouts to help young people get seen, and possible job opportunities if they pass the recruiting test. These connections are building into the music business also, where I work diligently to knock on doors to break through into the industry.
This wasn’t just an idea, it’s destiny! This helped change my life around to see the possibilities in my craft actually taking me around the globe. Instead of being a rapper I find joy in making beats to advertise along with my sports videos, making my company a potential tv network in the future.
Jason, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Born the youngest child, and proceeded by four sisters, I was brought up in a God-fearing home, where my father preached (after working jobs, and coming out of the street life) and my mother worked hard at Central Water Company to provide the most positive life as possible. As years passed I learned tough lessons that would lead me to find my soul purpose: nurturing my gifts, seeking to offer positive energy within my community, and building a new venture to connect and expand opportunities for those on their journeys to fulfillment. I have several ongoing projects in music production and has more than 15 years of experience. My personal music projects focus on transforming his deep thoughts into art form, while delivering sentiments around life, love, and opportunity. I’m also the mastermind behind the sports videography of Aviating Frequencies Inc. AFi is looking to expand into commercials, short films, tv shows, and other ventures that could open the door for growth.
As I continue to evolve as a person, business owner, videographer, and music producer he aims to launch youth functions, homeless feedings, youth camps, scholarship programs, after school programs, and (eventually) open a community center for all ages to attend. The center will act as a church holding youth conferences, business meetings, sports tournaments, Sunday morning praise and worship, and educating (enlightening) those who attend.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Gaining clientele isn’t just about social media! You have to get out an network weekly. If you’re into sports going to games meeting parents, high school/college coaches, college/pro scouts, event operators, media teams, showing your face for awhile, and showing your work ethic can get you more clientele. Social media is a good tool for advertisements, but to gain respect in the industry your in takes time to prove you can do the job effectively and consistently.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I had a job opportunity in Dallas with CYM. I took the risk and came to Dallas with just my video and studio equipment. Stayed in a hotel for 3weeks to learn that CYM has rental property for me to stay at while helping grow the league and my brand.
