We were lucky to catch up with Jason Gaines recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jason thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
One of the things that my parents did that has had an enormous impact on my life, was to introduce me to the arts at a very young age. I remember having my own superhero themed record player as a very young child, which I used to play music from my mother’s enormous record collection. It was literally like having my own music library to use, whenever I wanted. As I grew older, I attended numerous concerts and would rarely leave the house without some type of music with me to listen to, whether riding my bike, motorcycle, in my car, etc. Later on, I was given an opportunity in film, which, just like music, I instantly loved. I began meeting others within the film community, learning everything that I could, and have been very blessed to continue to stay involved.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a film actor, born and raised in the east central area of Mississippi. Since a very young age, I was exposed to various genres of music and eventually became involved in a variety of music groups, both inside and outside of school. I was blessed to continue to be involved in music periodically, into adulthood. As a young adult, I joined and served in the United States Marine Corps and later served in the Air National Guard. As my love for the arts continued throughout this time and beyond, I tried to stay involved when I could, and was eventually given an opportunity in film. This really sparked my interest for the industry, which led to me eventually becoming involved in different aspects of film (television, feature films, commercial, voiceover work, etc.) and becoming a member of the Screen Actors Guild. (SAG-AFTRA)
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being involved in the arts is simply being able to be a small part of others lives. Whether on set, while creating a project, or just hearing from those who are interested in what I do, I’m truly grateful for it all, and hope that I can help and inspire others along the way.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
As I’ve been very blessed to remain involved in the arts, I simply want to encourage others along the way. We all have our own interests and goals. I want others to know that Lord willing, they really can do anything, whether in the arts, or in any another field of interest. Throughout my life I have had challenges, as we all do, but have tried to focus forward, if that makes any sense. There are so many distractions that sometimes get in the way of a goal, which can cause discouragement at times. That doesn’t mean that we are failures. I believe that sometimes we are simply being re-directed to something even better.
