We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jason Fournier. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jason below.
Jason, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
I have been self-employed my whole life. Primarily a flooring contractor, I have had years with up to 10 contractors doing work for me down to just one. My work evolved from flooring to to adding some trim work and other remodeling things at customers request. The next thing I knew we were a complete home and commercial remodeling company. This became possible when I spoke with my middle son Robby, I asked him if he would like to partner up with me and form a general contractor company together. That is where Fournier Contracting started. He was the best decision to have as a partner.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are a small family-oriented business. Our goal I’d to provide the best customer service to all of our clients and still keep projects held to a higher standard. No cutting corners on our jobs. We grew from residential flooring to commercial flooring taking in very large projects. Always providing top-notch service and meeting our deadlines every time. We pride ourselves on that. We then expanded to bathroom remodeling to full kitchens, basements to whole houses. Our custom decks have been a big part of our job schedule for the last few years.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The flooring industry can at times become oversaturated with installers and not enough work to go around. This holds true for those who focus on one type of flooring installation. I learned early on that that is more work available if I became great at all types of flooring installation. Later I realized it doesn’t have to stop at flooring. Becoming a partner rather than an individual of a company made it all easier to manage. My son Robby and I along with our great crews are able to go from spending 2 weeks on a large commercial flooring project to building a custom composite deck to remodeling a come plate home over several months. Being versatile is what keeps us very busy with work.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My son Robby Fournier finished high school and immediately went to work for a very large commercial contractor. He was working 50-70 hrs a week, had very odd schedules, and had a lot of traveling. I watched how hard he worked for someone else and realized how hard he would work for himself. That is why I presented him with the idea of him and I partnering up. It has been a successful partnership ever since. Not many family members can work well together, especially father/son combinations but for some reason, we really do work great together.
My oldest son Jason Jr. would have also been a great choice as a partner but he had already been committed to the career he started at 18. He is now a very established journeyman Sprinkler Fitter and will more than likely be retired at a young age, unlike most self-employed contractors.
The newest addition is my youngest son Spencer, he recently graduated high school and decided to join Robby and myself in our company. He also has big goals that he wants to achieve. First, he wants to obtain his builder’s license within the next year. I am extremely proud of all 3 of my boys!
My wife Kacie, who is not my business partner, owns and operates a very beautiful and successful Salon and Spa. She has been a tremendous part of starting and growing our business. We are both very proud of each other and the careers that we have built. We help each other in any way possible.
