Jason, appreciate you joining us today. Innovation comes in all shapes, sizes and across all industries, so we’d love to hear about something you’ve done that you feel was particularly innovative.
With my real estate team (The Cassity Team x REAL), we’ve always been pretty innovative with the way that we market our homes. We were the first team in Downtown San Diego to use interactive 3d tours to showcase our homes, and were very early to the game when it came to marketing our homes, and ourselves, on social media.
Now, I’m trying to innovate the real estate space on two fronts, First, here locally in San Diego, with STÜDIO, a specialized video marketing company that helps real estate agents create content. We meet with our clients and game plan the 4-8 pieces of content best suited for the goals that they want to achieve, and then outline, film, edit, and distribute it for them. Secondarily, I just started a new nationwide real estate referral network called REFER. REFER is a 1st of its kind networking group, with close to 100 members (one agent per city). We bring in A-List guest speakers, host in-person meet ups, and have ongoing business building challenges for our members.
Jason, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Jason Cassity, the Principal agent at The Cassity Team, a top producing real estate team here in San Diego. Our aim is, and always has been, to deliver exceptional results for our clients and innovate the space with creative marketing approaches, in what is an otherwise archaic marketing landscape (residential real estate sales).
I’m also the co-founder of a real estate video marketing company, named STÜDIO, which aims to help real estate agents create high-quality video & social media content. And most recently, I just launched a nationwide (and Canada) real estate referral network called REFER, with members in close to 100 different cities.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Thankfully, my career in the real estate space began in 2012, which is also the year the Instagram got bought by Facebook, and started to grow exponentially. I got comfortable sharing a lot of the behind the scenes of my day-to-day business via Instagram, which took care of the “what do I post” conundrum that a lot of professionals post. My biggest piece of advice here is to just “document” what you’re already doing every day, instead of worrying about “creating” something to post.
Aside from that, I also employed Gary Vaynerchuk’s “$1,80 strategy” for Instagram growth. The tactic there is to pick 10 relevant hashtags that you’re trying to grow a following in (for me it was San Diego related hashtags & Real Estate industry related hashtags), view the top 9 posts on those 10 hashtags (90 posts), and leave your $.02 on each one. (90 posts * $.02 = $1,80 strategy). Its a silly way to remember it, but ultimately you should be LIKING, COMMENTING, FOLLOWING other users on the relevant hashtags that you want to grow in.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Hands down my best source of NEW clientele is referrals from other, out of area agents. That ends up being a by-product of being very visible on social media, is that other professionals in your field will start to see you constantly as well. Going back to the “document, dont create” advice from earlier, if you’re documenting the behind the scenes things that you do on a day to day basis, you’re likely going to draw more attention from other industry professionals as well. Don’t neglect those relationships. just because they’re not going to be a client of yours. Those out of area professionals could very likely end up referring you business.
