Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jason Cannon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jason, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I have made for my business goes beyond a singular purchase. When I took the plunge, I gathered a collection of quality tools, equipment, and supplies. These early investments have been critical in turning my artistic vision into a tangible reality.
My acquisition of specialized tools has significantly enhanced the quality of my offerings. Investing in top-notch mixing equipment, molds/forms, pigments, and finishing tools enables me to achieve my desired results with minimal frustration.
Equally crucial to Shadystone’s success has been the formulation of my own proprietary cement blend. Sourcing premium materials such as aggregates, pigments, and organic materials from my homestead has not only elevated the quality of my products but has also expanded the scope of design possibilities. Ive been able to experiment with textures, forms, colors, and finishes, ensuring that each Shadystone pot is a durable and unique work of art.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Shadystone is a creative enterprise that blossomed as an extension of our greenhouse business, Shady Grove Greenhouse. The whole Shadystone journey began with a need to create vessels for the diverse array of plants in our greenhouses.
What sets Shadystone apart is the commitment to catering to the vast spectrum of plant enthusiasts, ranging from collectors of popular houseplants to the most exotic cacti and succulents. Whether you are seeking a cute little pot for a spider plant or a grand vessel for an extremely rare South African caudex specimen, Shadystone offers an array of options.
As an artist, I understand the significance of a bespoke creation that perfectly complements the unique beauty of each plant. I offer clients the opportunity to collaborate on tailor-made pieces, ensuring that Shadystone becomes an integral part of their botanical narratives.
In essence, Shadystone is more than a business; it’s a testament to enriching the world of plant enthusiasts with an unparalleled commitment to quality, diversity, and personalized craftsmanship.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are an underwhelming and questionable form of artistic expression. They prioritize speculative value over genuine aesthetic or cultural significance.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing about this artistic path is being able to create (and, hopefully, sell) anything I can imagine.
