We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmyne Mangum a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jasmyne, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

The Born Again Essence’s Meaningful Mission is to help individuals heal mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We strive to create a safe space for our scars to show and heal properly. One thing I always tried to do in my past was to hide my scars insecurities, and flaws. I came to the conclusion that I wasn’t alone. That there were so many people across the world who shared the same exact insecurities and flaws as me. Our goal is to build a community of men, women, and children to live a comfortable and free life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Jasmyne Mangum, and I am the owner and founder of Born Again Essence. Born Again Essence is a family-based company that places a strong emphasis on overall health, both internally and externally. Born Again Essence is more than just skincare – it’s a movement towards self-love, empowerment, and holistic well-being

In 2017, my life underwent a profound change. During that year, God planted many seeds within me, even though I felt unprepared. My insecurities were holding me back from the life I desired. I made the decision to create a brand based on my insecurities because nothing else seemed to work. I used those insecurities as inspiration for providing solutions. Converting my insecurities into a business took boldness, but when you understand your purpose, fear cannot hinder you.

In June 2020, I introduced Born Again Essence to the world. The goal has always been, and will always be, to transform lives, not just skin. This commitment is exemplified by the release of my debut book, “Broken Better,” in 2022. The book serves as a pragmatic guide to mental and emotional health, designed to assist you in becoming the best version of yourself. Within the pages of my book, I shared my personal journey of transformation, aided by my skincare products. Through their combined influence, I was able to reclaim my power and restore my confidence.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

My first book “Broken Better” has had a significant impact on the brand’s reputation. It emphasizes the idea that healing goes beyond surface-level skincare concerns and delves into the deeper connections between our mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being and the condition of our skin. It encourages readers to analyze the underlying causes of issues that manifest as skin problems.

I am also an artist/painter. The cover of this book hangs on my living room wall. One of my most inquired-about pieces. I constructed it in 2015. With actual broken pieces of glass incorporated into this masterpiece, in one of my darkest moments, I smashed a mirror out of anger. I remember looking at the broken pieces of glass on the floor as tears sprinkled over the mess I had made. I bent down to start picking up the pieces when a thought crossed my creative mind, “I can turn these broken pieces into something.” and that’s what I did.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

The best source of new clients for me is when people meet me in person or at events and conferences. I almost always sell products and books everywhere that I go. I like to keep my business cards on me because I naturally draw people to me and they are always curious as to what I do. I tell them about my books and my products and they are so amazed by my story and my brand. A piece of advice I would give to someone who wants to start a business is to remember that you are a representation of your brand. Make sure you are positively representing your brand well at all times, even when no one is looking.
