We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmyn Womack. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmyn below.
Hi Jasmyn, thanks for joining us today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My hero is my life coach Daniel Noel. He has taught me that no matter the life you come from that you can be and do anything your heart desires. Dan has influenced me to give my babies the childhood I never had. To be better and never give up on my dreams. He helps me weekly set goals and make sure I hit them both business and personal.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jasmyn Womack and I am 22 years old. I own 3 childcare centers in Oklahoma and plan to open more later this year. I have 2 5 year olds and a 1 year old and they are my motivation to do everything. I was in Real Estate for a few years until I met my mother in law who owned a childcare center on the east side of Oklahoma City. My boyfriend and I asked her to open one with us in Moore and we all with his sisters decided to go in and open one. It was so nice to be able to give my children free childcare as well as see how this could help my family. I then decided to expand and open another one in another city then before I knew it was opening a third one just a couple months later. My goal is to provide financial freedom for my family so that I can start spending more time with my children and give them the best life possible. We provide affordable childcare services for families as well as accept DHS Subsidy. I find ways everyday to make my centers safer, and provide the best education to all ages. I am so proud of how far I have came at my age. I grew up going into dhs custody, living in very unsafe places and even having babies at such a young age. To be able to still fight through all of that to give myself as well as my now family a great life with an amazing partner supporting me every step of the way is the best thing ever. If I can go through so much and still come out doing the best I can then anyone can.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Many people say that you can’t start a business unless you have all of this money saved up. My partner and I used our income from every paycheck we received from work to start the first daycare. We got behind on bills, no savings, not eating out much. Just so we could get the 1st one off the ground. It took about 6 months before we made our money back that we put in. Which with hard work daily on the center to get it profitable made it worth it!
Can you talk to us about your experience with buying businesses?
A childcare center closed down after being open for 51 years which is now my third center! It closed and I met with the old owners that sold it to me. I showed them how me buying it and the potential to reopen it and keep the values the same since the center was such a staple in the community. I had to go through inventory count on 14 extremely large classrooms, it took me about 2 weeks of 8 hour days. I had to go through all of the financials and see what went wrong and how my methods would turn it around. The steps I’d take to get it back open in my time frame. I worked day in and out to get it together, people hired, licensed and back open as of March 4th 2024
