Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmyn Nichols. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jasmyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
The first dollar I ever earned as a creative was face painting with my grandmother for children’s parties, and other events. It’s important for me to note that she was the first person that noticed my talents when I about 5 or 6, and proceeded to take me to events with her for exposure, experience, and the money.
Jasmyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello everyone! My name is Jasmyn Nichols, and I am a multidisciplinary artist and creative from Stone Mountain, GA. For my art, I provide commissions of all mediums (clothing, grad caps, canvases, woodcuts, purses, etc.) For dance, I provide HBCU dance prep and workout training, along with dance workshops! I always strive to showcase the love that I have for my craft, whenever I am doing a commission, or on stage performing, and I hope that people are able to see that and invest in me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for me when it comes to being an artist is always the reaction. I love seeing people’s faces light up when they get to see the final result of their product, or a personal art piece that I finished, it means that I’ve done my job, and it makes my heart feel full. I’ve done over 300 commissions since I started my art business Charese Creations LLC, and I’ve loved every single piece that I’ve made
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’m going to tell a story from my life as a dancer. Back in 2021, I was not very confident in myself as a dancer, and gotten to a place that I had never in been before. Instead of sitting in that sadness, and believing that I couldn’t get back to where I was before, I picked myself back up, and started a dance series on TikTok titled “Dancing until I feel like myself again.” Within it, I was doing dances from different HBCU dance teams like the Stingettes , TXSU Motion, and the J-Settes. I kept adding videos each times I would feel sad, and it got to a point where one of my videos went viral, and I ended up making into the Whip It Challenge, dancing to BigXThaPlug’s “Whip It”! Fast forward, a couple of weeks later, I end up being in the music video because of it, and from that experience of picking myself back up from that sad place, I was able to gain back my power.
