Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmyn Coleman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jasmyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope to be considered a “world-changer.” I hope my legacy to be me showcasing the broad range of emotions through Motherhood across the globe. Tenderness, vulnerability, compassion, and fierceness to name a few. I specialize in motherhood photography, capturing maternity, newborn, and post-partum moments. Through photography, my biggest dream is to travel the world and tell the stories of different cultures documenting their similarities and differences. Motherhood creates connections between people through unspoken words. For one to share those emotions one must be comfortable enough with their company to be vulnerable. I hope to be the person who is known to hold space, listen, and be the messenger for the stories shared.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always been passionate about the Arts and creativity! Since childhood, I have had a camera in my hand, taking photographs of anything and everything. I have always spent a lot of time out in nature, which is where I first focused my photography. I decided to venture around the world to capture the beauty of the Earth. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my daughter, that sparked my love for photographing motherhood. Life for many women, carrying my first child was a life-changing experience for obvious reasons, but also many internal reasons that I never knew would even come up.
I found myself more connected to my feminine nature and maternal instincts. Often, society doesn’t talk about the beauty of pregnancy, but instead about the pain points. It’s typical to hear more about how much women dislike their bodies through pregnancy when I felt completely the opposite. Since now running my business, I have found many women who resonate with how I felt. Yes, the aches, pains, and uncomfortable moments are still there and undesired. But, the overall beauty of creating life within outshines the negative.
My goal in my photography business is to show the natural organic moments of motherhood. This includes both the positive and negative because both are the raw truths of motherhood. I want women to be comfortable, feel seen, and heard while also uplifting them and making them feel beautiful. I am always meeting my clients where they at in their journey. I feel the mothers that step in front of my camera feel a bit of healing, no matter their background or story, when they see their final images. They’re often surprised and more in love with themselves!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I spent almost 8 months pregnant overseas living and traveling throughout South East Asia and New Zealand before coming back to the United States to have my baby. During this time, I learned about the disparities in maternal healthcare between the United States and the rest of the world. Many may think the U.S. has the best maternal care, but I found the opposite to be true. My entire trip was surrounded by the love and comfort that birthing women around the world receive, which isn’t as common here in the U. S, especially post-partum. My travels overseas broadened my knowledge about maternity and motherhood in different parts of the world. I didn’t realize my dream of wanting to travel and photograph motherhood around the world until I came back to the States, when I felt most alone in my own post-partum care. I am now raising my daughter with some of the worldly customs and knowledge that I gained while traveling. I use this dream as motivation and purpose for me to travel again, this next time with my daughter. After my own journey through motherhood, I have discovered what I need to be to help other women going through their journey.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In building my business, I learned and unlearned a lot about myself. Entrepreneurship requires a lot of self-reflection! As a business owner, I have had to understand both my strengths and weaknesses. A lot of those qualities overlap in my personal life. Creating boundaries is a huge lesson that I’ve had to learn. I have had to learn that I can’t please everyone while trying to maintain the integrity of my business.
