We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmyn Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jasmyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission within my art business is so meaningful to me because it gives myself and the consumer an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on history and culture in multifaceted ways. Viewing my art, whether that’s through my digital art or home décor collection I want the people to feel empowered and inspired through the lens of my creative expression. Cultural representation is another important aspect within my mission for Jazart Studio. As a black woman raised in the south, redefining stereotypes and showcasing the beauty and deep complexities of my mind to the world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello world I’m Jasmyn Brown, born in 1994, a multi-faceted artist, working in digital + collage art and resin designer based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
My passion has always been focused around creating, doing DIYs and designing projects. Majority of my works are personal reflections influenced by history, culture and music.
I design an array of home decor items, from accent trays/coasters to sculptures. I also up-cycle home decor as well.
As a digital artist I collage as my mind technique. With that I’m creating an art piece using an assortment of images, illustrations and colors to visually story-tell.
What sets me apart is my style, attention to detail and my intentionality showcased through my art.
I’m most proud to staying committed to creating dope and amazing pieces for the community and the people enjoying and supporting my work. That’s beyond rewarding.
What I would want the for those to know about me and my brand is that passion had led me here and with time, dedication and commitment anyone can create the lifestyle they want through a creative career. Making unique art is a needed necessity in our society and we all have a story to tell.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I’ve had to unlearn is that social media is not the only tool to use to get sales. It’s great for marketing and information. But I’ve had moments of frustration due to receiving likes/followers/shares of your product but that not translating over to actual purchases. Being out in the community, people seeing your art work & products in person has been has on the other hand translated over to purchases and face-to-face relationships.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Me making those authentic face-to-face relationships within the community has gone a long way. Going out to vendor markets, art events and other progressive activities in the community supporting others have been my main source of relationship building. This has helped me and my reputation where people look and respect me and my business where they’ll support and recommend others to support me as well. It’s been such a huge blessing.
