We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Wright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.
Jasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
“What does it take to be successful?”, I think there is a misconception these days about success. That you have to “get lucky” or “Strike Gold”. That if you try enough things that something has to stick and be your lottery ticket to success, but that just simply isn’t the case. At least in my experience in my own life and the lives of other entrepreneurs I know, As a kid I grew up very poor…its funny because I didn’t realize how poor we were until I got older. But we were visiting our local food pantry often, had our electric turned off many times etc.. To give some more context, my mom was a single mom. She really struggled, but she worked incredibly hard to make sure we had what we needed and made sure she put me in rooms that would provide me with opportunities. Growing up in this situation, I knew that I had to succeed. Failure was not an option because I needed to create a better life for myself..to make my mom proud and make sure her hustle was never in vain. From a young age I was studying what the people, who i thought to be :successful ,were doing, and it always seemed the same. It may have.appeared that they were overnight successes and they “got lucky” but the truth was they spent a lot of time learning, growing, and practicing their craft. They showed up, put their nose to the grindstone and built success. So they put in the work doing the mundane tasks that got them closer to their version of success day in and day out with no recognition….almost going completely unnoticed until they did it long enough to find the success in it. I truly think success is so subjective based on the individual. I know entrepreneurs that measure success in money, others that measure success in having free time to step away from their business, others find success in the day to day just simply being able to do what they love…so although it depends on ones version of success, I believe that those that success happens when you find clarity of exactly what you need to do daily to move you closer to success and doing it daily for a long enough time!

Jasmine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jasmine Wright, I am a multi-passionate entrepreneur….I currently own a thriving gym and a VW bus rental service with my husband Mitchell, I am a mother to the sweetest. year old, Maya, and I am also a dance educator/choreographer ( ya know in my spare time lol).
I actually just became an entrepreneur about 2 years ago. My husband and I had worked really hard for a long time and we were finding it was a struggle trading our time for money barely making enough and filling someone else’s pockets. I will say as a freelance worked I did have some more freedoms than he did at the time with work, but my work wasn’t always guaranteed. So although we had steady work at the time, we knew it wasn’t a fool proof plan for our future and wouldn’t get us to our version of success. In this time when we really started to explore other options, we were offered an opportunity to buy a gym from some friends whom we had over the years built a strong relationship with. It seemed crazy in the moment. although we were both very into fitness ( my husband a professional body builder and myself being a gymrat), neither of us had any business experience…We had in the past joked about how cool it would be to own a gym, but never thought it could be a reality, yet this opportunity seemed to present itself at the perfect time, So we did it, We hustled to get to the point where we could acquire it, but we made it happen!
Once we dove into the gym industry, we realized we didnt want our gym to be like other gyms…for context our gym is a smaller weight lifting facility that offers general admission and personal training. To us, the best. part of any gym and the gym experience was the transformation that happens once you sign up…but we realized that most people who sign up for gyms aren’t getting that. Its is something that we felt when we first started going to he gym years and years ago and we wanted everyone who signed up at our gym to have the best. possibility to get that. So that was our mission, how do we implement the tools needed so that everyone who walks through those doors has access to the tools they need to change their life if they want to. I am proud to say that we are doing that. Everyday we are celebrating our clients transforming their lifestyles, physiques, and health! It is really fulfilling to see and to be apart of that journey they are on!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Building a trust worthy reputation is easily one of the most important things business owners need to do…especially in the health and wellness field. People are essentially trusting you with their lives so its imperative they trust you or they will not buy your services.
I believe the main things that helped us build this great reputation so quick as new business owners taking over a business and a principle we live by daily is “under promise and over deliver”. You’ve got to think…how many businesses do you come in contact with daily? How many of them are completely underwhelming? for me it would be 9/10. Most businesses I interact with i’m often underwhelmed or even disappointed by their service or lack of attentiveness to serving their client. So when you come into contact with a business that over delvers these days, it is such a breath of fresh air. Doing what you say you’re going to do builds good report SO quickly these days. The crazy thing? its so simple. You say you will follow up with a client on Monday, actually do it!

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Yes! We are firm believers in this simple business principle…Find out what services/products your clients are buying and start having them get it from you. I will explain this with our gym. Of course people sign up for a gym membership to get fit our reach a goal. If they dont know how to get there themselves they might hire a coach or buy a program. Instead of them seeking out a coach/program somewhere else we make i easy…use OUR coach or one of OUR programs! Most people who workout use supplements…so we save our clients a trip to the store we offer supplements in house! Apparel is also another big one for us at the gym. The main question here is how do I redirect the money my clients are already spending to be spent here in turn also making my clients life more efficient by them being able to get everything they need that relates to their fitness here!
