We recently connected with Jasmine Stamper and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
Let me first start by saying that social media is a beast. At the moment I manage my own social media with some assistance from someone that creates flyers for me. Finding someone to assist me with my social media platform has been extremely challenging. It’s challenging because essentially there isn’t anyone that will see or understand my vision like I do. But it’s hard for me because it’s a lot to keep up with. From learning more about the algorithm, understanding the trends and what’s required to keep it going appears to be a full-time job in itself.
I would one day love to hire someone that could work with me on my social media platform. I would like someone who is familiar with my industry and one that can help me create what is needed and to also assist with any visions that I have. My biggest challenge with social media is creating content according to the trends. For instance, social media is mostly videos. I would love to be able to create more videos within my industry however, I just don’t know how or what to do. Additionally, sometimes creating the time to create content can be difficult as well.

Jasmine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Jasmine fell in love with makeup at the young age of 8. She used to play in her mother’s collection of make up. Nonetheless, it wasn’t until later that she would learn that her passion was in the makeup industry.
Jasmine attended Albany State University, where she struggled with finding her purpose in life. She did not know exactly what career she would pursue; however, she did know that she wanted to be able to impact others’ lives in a positive manner. While in college, Jasmine completed simple but elegant looks for her friends in the dormitory. She never imagined that this intriguing hobby would become her life’s passion.
Having completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Science degree in Psychology, she began coursework for her PhD in Psychology but Jasmine realized this is not what made her happy. So she decided to step out on faith and follow her dream, something that made her truly happy. She attended the Industry Makeup Academy in Atlanta, GA and became a certified Make-Up Artist.
Jasmine ultimately wants to empower women, through conversation and education but she also seeks to enhance their innate beauty through encouraging their confidence. By doing this, she can reinforce that true beauty comes from within and that by “STAMPING” a face, she is only amplifying their natural beauty.
Stepping out o faith was one of the best decision that Jasmine could’ve made for herself. She is now the Lead MUA on BounceTV’s hit show, “Johnson”. She has a salon studio located in Douglasville, GA and she’s the happiest she has ever been leading a life fulfilled within her career.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My side hustle has become my main and full-time career. Doing makeup is a hobby that I never thought would lead to the career I currently have. As a child I used to play in makeup. I remember being in middle school sneaking eyeliner and lip gloss out of the house and applying it when I would go to school daily. Makeup has always been that “thing” that has fulfilled me artistically, mentally and emotionally.
When I was about 27 years old, I realized that I absolutely hated my job and something needed to change. I was given the opportunity to attend a local makeup academy in Atlanta, Ga. From that school I earned my certification in makeup. In the beginning I was extremely reluctant to start doing makeup on anyone because I wasn’t confident in my skill set. The instructor at the school begin to give my number out to clients which pushed me out there even though I felt as though I wasn’t prepared. That little push was what I needed because I continued to learn the more I worked.
It is now, 8 years later and I am working in my career full-time. Approximately, 4 years ago is when I decided I was ready to quit my full-time job and pursue makeup full-time. Making that decision was extremely challenging yet rewarding. When I chose to quit, I did not have a large clientele. During this time, I made a lot of sacrifices yet remained consistent. As time went on my clientele continued to grow to the point where I now have a studio where I have a large consistent clientele.
To date, the biggest milestone for me is being the Lead MUA on the hit show “Johnson”. I aspire more opportunities such as this.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a social media audience is really hard, especially for an introvert such as myself. The advice that I have is to be consistent. Consistency entails creating content for your niche, branding, and being creative.
