Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmine Small. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
It can be said creating a safe space, for ones’ self, within this world can be difficult. My work is a story of my life whether it be an ensemble pulled together or a concept photo, using myself as a muse. It is a display of who I am. Of course, in life one goes through ups and downs, the ups and downs frame individuals, molding them into their true identity. One turning point in my life was the period of “reimaging”. This period was filled with opinions of others; mainly on how I began to present myself. While I could understand the doubt, I never fell into letting it be my guiding force. I did not allow the opinions of others stop my display of who I am becoming.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am a current PhD student in Business Administration with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership at Northcentral University, an online boutique owner and content creator. I have always wanted to achieve the highest level of education in whatever field I planned to be in. Being a full-time student is tough with all of my responsibilities, but I am passionate about what I am learning and researching, so it makes it easier. I was recently inducted into The National Society of Leadership and Success, the nation’s largest accredited leadership honor society. The business aspect stems from my late grandmother’s entrepreneurship and accomplishments as a businesswoman. I grew up watching her create businesses ranging from real estate to transportation, this influenced my idea to create an online boutique. Content creation came from my work as a fashion model in Visage Fashion Company at Georgia Southern University with awards including Model of the Year and Best Model Walk, in 2016.
I tend to be very helpful and resourceful this aids in my work, in all three areas of my life. My main goal is to assist those in finding their best self. This could be through assembling an outfit for a boutique client or influence of my photos. I am proud of my overall achievements as an individual. To come from where I come from and go through what I’ve gone through it is truly a blessing. No matter who you are I encourage you to be yourself and let what is meant to be, be; remember “everything happens for a reason”.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I hope unity comes from my work; by helping individuals identify with themselves. I tend to have an optimistic view of the world and believe that if everyone were to spread love and find inner peace it could be a better place. So, overall I think my driving goal or mission is unity on planet Earth.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing my work. Even if it doesn’t get “a lot of likes” or “go viral” I love seeing my growth through my work. It’s as if it is a sign to keep going towards my goals.
