We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Salgado. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.
Jasmine, appreciate you joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
First foremost, we would not be where we are without God and our supportive family & friends. Every prayer, every recommendation, and every lesson has put us in the position that we are in today. We scaled our business by implementing our previous work experience/ethic and education into our business. I graduated college with my degree in Mechanical Engineering B.S. and Edwin graduated college with a degree in Project Management. Both of these career paths train you to be laser focused and to understand every element of a problem to determine the best way to solve the “problem”. This laser focused has helped in our remodeling business when managing projects that have multiple subcontractors.
We also joined community groups to share and listen to other’s experiences. We always hire professionals to do a professional job. Our motto is “Always done right the first time!” Our clients know that they can trust us to deliver a great remodel and many times we get hired to fix another companies mistakes.
Jasmine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We met in Automotive school in 2009. So, we both have an Automotive background and a fascination with understanding how things work. We moved to Austin together in 2012 and while in Austin, Edwin became an apprentice for a remodeling company and took project management courses. This helped lay the foundation for our future real estate business.
We started our Real Estate business in 2015. We began by wholesaling properties and that soon evolved into purchasing homes to “flip” (Purchase to Remodel to Sale for a Profit). We would buy these houses from wholesalers or buy directly from homeowners by sending them post cards. We have purchased close to 40 homes to flip and sell. We are always proud of our work and happy to sell a beautiful home to new homeowners.
In 2019, We welcomed our super awesome son into the world. He has inspired us in more ways than we will ever know.
When Covid-19 hit, we had to switch our business strategy to something more long-term. We decided to start holding onto these properties and renting them out to Long-Term tenants and also utilizing the Short-Term Rental method. We thank God that it has been successful.
In 2021, after the freeze in February Jasmine’s Father died and it definitely had an impact on our daily lives and our business. So, in 2022 we sought to open two new businesses that will eventually be able to run on their own without much input from us.
This year we opened Blue Stone Construction of Texas, which is our remodeling company. Our team of experienced professionals are dedicated to providing top-notch service and quality workmanship on every project. We are dedicated to finishing the project on time or even before the deadline. Starting our remodeling company has been so rewarding when we get to see homeowners’ design ideas come to life. We also offer financing, which really helps homeowners invest into their home without breaking their bank.
This year we also opened Signature Salon Studios in Humble, this is an elegantly remodeled facility that rents suites to professionals, whether they are hairstylists, barbers, nail techs, locticians or any other professional needing a suite to meet clients.
Edwin and I are business partners and our strengths definitely compliment each other. We thank God, our family and friends for all of their support, without God and Family none of this would’ve been possible.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele is doing a great job and the referrals that come the clients that loved working with us. A lot of our previous clients recommend us to their friends and family. Many times when we remodel a kitchen or bathroom for a family, they are so happy and excited that they want to tell their neighbors and family.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
One of supplementary revenue streams that we have is our salon. We have a two story commercial building that rents out salon suites on the first floor. The people who rent out these suites are their own business and simply rent the space that we aren’t occupying. This is one of our supplementary revenue streams.
