Jasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
When I first began creating pancake art I didn’t have any art experience and I remember the feeling of being timid to put myself out there event wise for other people to see as a result of it. I had been creating pancake art in private non-stop for over 1 year at my house after work or on my days off to try to get better and even after all of that time, I was still nervous..
I remember the steps that it took to get to my first event vividly.. I went to work and for the first time ever shared a little bit about what I was doing pancake art with my friend Alisha. After telling her I was interested in pursuing pancake art I felt nervous, excited, anxious for a response.. What I’ve learned about Alisha over time that I didn’t know then, is that she always will support me unconditionally. She not only supported me with kindness, but she also said that she knew of someone that founded a Non-Profit(Exposed Homeless Youth) and was looking to potentially put together an event for their anniversary. Without thinking twice about it, I said yes.
That event was booked in September 24th 2017 with my good friend Kenisha. If you ask me, it’s one of the main reasons why Get Caked LA became what it was today. I wouldn’t have taken the leap without Alisha mentioning she knew someone and Kenisha taking a chance on me. When I look back on this story it reminds me how important it is to talk about the things you’re doing with the people that you care about because you never know who could help put you in the place you need to be.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I first started creating pancake art I had no prior art experience, but had seen the idea online from a Japanese pancake artist and was immediately captivated by it. At the time I bounced the idea off of my mom and we both knew that it would be a challenge if I did decide to pursue pancake art.. That same week I remember scrolling on my phone and stumbling upon a short study that mentioned in summary; The way that humans brains learn and develop skill, we can technically learn any skill in the world. That was enough for 20 year old me to rush to the nearest store 15-20 minutes before they closed, grab plastic squeeze bottles and decide that I was going to try to make a pancake. My first ever Pikachu.
Whenever you’re proud of something you send it to the people that matter most and in this context that meant my mom. I remember sending her the picture of my first pancake ever and her response being “Don’t quit your day job haha”. It’s safe to say that after years of practice, pancake art is my day job and something I’ll always love to do.
Creating pancake art has given me the ability to connect with humans on a deeper level by reminding adults/kids that practice makes progress and that we all start at level 0 whenever we’re doing any new skill. All of us. Get Caked LA has been created for the love of what we do and inspire others to follow their dreams. We hope take that leap too.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe that kindness, word of mouth and integrity have helped build our reputation with our market. We are the only pancake art company based on the entire West coast and there are still millions of people that aren’t aware this is a service you can book for a party. When people are kind by taking a video and post it somewhere, it allows us the chance to grow exponentially.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The 1 book I recommend to all humans is How To Win friends and Influence Others by Dale Carnegie. It taught me show up differently for myself and the people around me and still impacts my day to day life to this day with the lessons I’ve learned.
