We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Perry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.
Alright, Jasmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
I worked in customer service for 5 years, and it gave me the tools to maintain my business. In customer service I learned how to create a proper flow in transaction and conflict resolution. How you treat people matters! You can have a great product, but if your service is poor then you can kiss your business goodbye. Don’t get me wrong, some clients/customers are jerks ‘who peaked in high school’ or are looking to pull wool over your eyes, but those are few and far in-between in my industry. Most people just want to be ensured they and what they’re buying are taken care of, this includes being open in communication even when things go wrong.
For example, I always tell my customers to allow 3-5 business days for their purchase to be dropped off at the shipping location. One time, I let it get to 7 days. I emailed the customer to apologize and refunded their shipping fee for the inconvenience. They were so thankful, and came back to buy more products that year.
Another example, in 2021, a customer emailed me that their shipment hadn’t came at the designated date. I looked into it, and informed them it was due to the ice storm in Houston and all shipments and route were halted due to the road conditions being iced over for days. They were shocked as they didn’t know I stayed in Houston (where it occurred), and sent a prayer through the email. It was the sweetest thing! They were so understanding and patient that I sent them a 20% coupon just for being so caring for my safety.
The main thing is strive to make sure EVERY customer encounter is a pleasant and cooperative experience. Their experience will spread, and bring more clients and opportunities in the future.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jasmine Perry and I am iArtJassy. I am an artist specializing in biblical art, black art, and textured sceneries. I started out drawing on walls when I was 2, so my parents got smart and gave me paper instead. I’ve been into art ever since! I’ve been formally painting since 2017, but didn’t ‘put my foot on the gas’ until 2020. During this time, I began my spiritual journey in 2017. I learned that I am an Israelite that the Bible speaks of. I want the world to know what it is to be an Israelite, what we stand for, and the beauty of our culture.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
That I had to get it right on the first try, and if I didn’t get it right, it would take forever. If I didn’t know what my niche was, I never would. If I didn’t have a website, I wasn’t professional enough. If I couldn’t paint a certain type of art, I wouldn’t get clientele. If I didn’t participate in certain events, I wouldn’t get opportunities. None of these were true. Each time those self-doubtful thoughts would come into my mind, I remembered I am on the Lord’s timing and will, and not my own. I would recite Philippians 4:6-9 in my mind, rebuke those thoughts, and submit onto the Lord. I gave it all to Him and now my soul is becoming so free because now He has taken the reins. I don’t have to worry about anything because I know it will all works out in my favor in the end.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
It feels like bitcoin. It looks lucrative if you know what your doing but it just not for me. An NFT is nice but it will never beat the classic artistic format of drawing and painting.
