We recently connected with Jasmine Perry and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I always love makeup, so for years I was always on YouTube learning how to perfect my look and how I wanted my face to look. Many people told I should do makeup on others but I didn’t really get the drive and inspiration to do it until 2020. I knew I wanted to do makeup because I knew that if other people saw how good I did, then there’s no doubt that i couldn’t do makeup on others and do great.
Jasmine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the industry by just buying all my makeup products and first doing it on myself and then gradually taking makeup classes so I could start doing others. I first started off selling lashes which the brand was called “KeepItJassy” and loved the support I was getting, then after I took a makeup class , I created my makeup artist business and took off from there. I would say the discipline for my business or doing makeup is to never get discouraged, always stay motivated and hungry, KEEP GOING even when things get rough you should always keep going. Never stop bringing out content, always bring something new. The only services I provide right now is makeup services and also makeup classes, I like to show people that they can make themselves feel beautiful by doing makeup. My clients tend to give me FULL creative control, I also make sure I talk to them and we create a relationship that makes them comfortable around me and makes them want to come back, and issues I’ve ever had with clients have always been handled in a respectful manner and that’s that. I feel like I’m different from others because I’m in my own lane, I’ll never be in a lane that’s not meant for me. The one thing that I am most proud of is how I far I came and how much my craft has gradually perfected, it makes my heart warm, and it makes other take me and my work serious. I just want my clients, potential clients, followers, supporters, my brand and my work, also myself to know that there’s more from me that you’ll see, my work is my baby, it’s something that I’ll always love and be serious about! I could never stop learning, I can only get better from here. I’m welcoming to any potential clients, followers, all of it because without you guys I wouldn’t be this far.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn is feeling entitled, everyone won’t like you or support like you expect or think. More strangers than family will give you the upmost support, and also it is not easy! Patience is everything for any career and path you’re set to do!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, i want to be doing big time people makeup, artist and all. I want my brand to be on tv, I want my career to be BIG from doing makeup. I wanna stay out of my comfort zone and do anything I can put my mind to because my goal is to make it and be successful!
