We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmine Nesbitt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jasmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
To be completely honest I am happy as an artist in my current field of portfolio entrepreneurship. I am currently building b2c; business to consumer marketing methods, c2c; consumer to consumer connections to my target goal markets, and several other sources of income to fully work for myself fulltime. I am grateful to have a full-time government job of seven years. However, like any other job it has its difficulties. With being friends and in network with other full-time entrepreneurs. Full-time entrepreneurship is most definitely self-made. I COMMEND them for the abundant amount of faith they carry every day. Being a full-time entrepreneur it is not easy. There will be moments where the profit is successful then the profit gross is unsuccessful. Entrepreneurs go through natural disasters, loss prevention, and strong critical reviews that can make or break the owner of any business every day. However, I have had a job all my life. At the age of fourteen my first job was at a theme park organization in Memphis, Tennessee by the name of Liberty land. Since then, I have always kept a job. I have always worked for someone else. I know once I fully invest in myself full time it will make a world of difference with having more time on my hands. I am in the mind state of moving correctly more so than fast pace. I am closer than I think, within this strategy. It creates perseverance and most definitely building my faith! Hebrews 11:1
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jasmine Samiya,
I am the CEO of three business entities 1123 LLC. Est October 2017 (Event Planning & Management) with niche provided services such as tablescape design, floral, home organization, social gatherings, events, or destination weddings internationally/domestically.
Worldwide Opulence Travel & CO. LLC. Est December 2023 (Wanderlust Consultant with niche provided services as concert edition accommodations. sports specialties, large-group social accommodations, solo-travel accommodations with the mission to educate my clients on travel ID readiness, specialty itineraries, safety self-awareness & luxury travel on a budget. The where’s Carmen Sandiego of travel per say!
Lastly TDNG ” That dang Nesbitt Girl”, sole proprietorship. Digital creator in visual fields, content, b2c (business to consumer) marketing, and social-media management start-ups, with niche provided services such as YouTube content, influencer/blog visuals, lifestyle photography, and event/social content management. This entity was my very first! It started as a hobby. I started to tell my personal testimony with life’s pivots as a woman with many woes of Pain, Strength & Happiness. Titled evolvethysamiya, Est 2013. Throughout life I took time to rebrand this from the ground up, Est March 2022: to request the trademark for it to house all media including my own, it is my first love.
My back history has always been “let me plan the party or gathering!” “Let me entertain the people!” It runs deep with just being in front of the camera being photogenetic at an early age and my past model aspirations. Creating a safe space such as TDNG for businesses, influencers, aspiring preteens/ teenagers, and creators. The need to know where to start, how to, and the need to protect themselves, in such a space is important. The camera scene can truly make or destroy a person. This is the main reason my entities set me apart from others. It is based off true firsthand experiences as well as how I was treated in certain industry fields. I have established businesses that allow clients to become repeated clientele, plan with no judgement, with providence of education awareness that includes detail budgeting followed by human resource regards involving labor laws, ethics, etc. Detail management is the key to many problems I solve being in my fields. Whether it is social media management at events, event vendor placement/ designs for events, or ethical/ marketing standards for media, it is all very much an important deal to me. That is truly my driven proud factors of being a business owner. I am very much a walking testimony. I am a visual billboard of starting from the bottom with my dreams and entrepreneur goals. It starts with me! It is about passion and mission. It is about what I provide, why I provide it and how/ will it benefit my target audience. Having the time to pursue my personal testimony will come! However, currently I speak through my products, services, and growth within my creative fields of business.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot that has been a progressive approach in my life has been my overall emotional and personal growth. Truly figuring out what I want, what do I need, prioritizing myself over such people pleasing. In the year periods of 2017-2019 it was the most eye-opening time of my life. I went from starting my first business venture, establishing such stakeholder positions to allow myself & my former partner the opportunity to build our own brands that would provide longevity. To suddenly rebranding, rebuilding, and starting completely over with life due to divorce.
I learned that instead of seeing a vision for others and wanting better for them, I need to always protect me. Ask more questions more so than give opportunities to people that may not want them. The mentality of; when I win you win is not truly how everyone feels! So, make sure to surround yourself with leaders, winners and people that are equally yoked as well as like-minded. Correctly being aligned is everything! Also, to never invest so much in hu(man) they will let you down. The circumstances of this situation allowed me to reevaluate my entire life. When 2020 came, with the pandemic; I was relieved. Being overstimulated with my personal and mental health from that period of my life. It allowed me to sit, be quiet & focus. I started to build a better relationship with myself & GOD.
I truly learned how to fully love myself, at a time when I thought I had a partner. This resulted in rebuilding myself back up, finish my degree, rebrand, legalize my business entities, and heal in ways more than I could ever imagine. Hence, I am still healing. The solitude & steady isolation has made me greater. I am grateful & growing. I have an amazing family near and far that supports and loves me; ten toes down, a friend circle that will always ride for me. GOD has never forsaken me. I just had to tap in, comprehend and see my worth. This pivot has created the boss I should have been many years ago; however, nothing is denied just delayed. I learned the hard way everyone cannot go with you on set-made journeys! The sense of protection comes in all forms from karma even down to pain. I needed the lesson.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I have been a manager/leader of many organizations way before understanding management hence, why I decided to go back to finish my degree in Business Administration choosing my concentration in management.
My advice regarding my experience & education is incredibly simple. Listen then Respond. Most people spend their entire day at work. Not accounting what takes place outside of work. For me I am going to listen, observe, learn, never micromanage, ENCOURAGE, advocate that the door is always open, and promote no judgment zone communication! Having an understanding with my teammates, assuring them when everything is great! Assuring a person goes along way! It’s a bonus boost to our confidence! Employee engagement, this one is a must! Not only saying you are proud but showing and paying team members what they are WORTH! It’s reflection that you appreciate them! Nothing goes unnoticed ! Lastly, having set mind goal conversations. Seeking feedback on what works, how we can improve, what is important to you and not to just replace employees & repeat previous efforts. Employee retention matters! Giving employees a great space to move up and EXPAND! That’s how I provide morale! We all win!
