Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmine McKinney. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jasmine, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

The idea of SKYNN came into inception on April 22, 2018 when I was planning my birthday trip to Cancun. I wanted all of my friends and I to wear flesh tone colored swimsuits, and needless to say the pickings were SLIM. I received messages for weeks asking if I would change the color because none of us could find a flesh tone swimsuit that we liked. Ultimately we ended up settling on pieces we did not like and 2 of my friends unintentionally wore the exact same swimsuit lol. After our trip, I realized there was a niche in the swimwear market for flesh tones and I wanted in. I felt that SKYNN would work because I am passionate about cultivating self-worth and championing the natural beauty of all women. We combined tone and minimalism to create a look of luxe. No matter the color, shape, or size, all women will feel beautiful and vibrant when they wear SKYNN.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

 

 I was born and raised in Mississippi and I relocated to Dallas in 2016 after attaining my MBA. I am a Human Resources professional by day and a businesswoman 24/7. I enjoy creating, whether that be creating a new business, creating content, or creating memories through spending time with the people I love, I find fulfillment in watching something I have poured into come to fruition. So far, Dallas has truly been the land of opportunity for me. Through networking, I have been able to collaborate with so many amazing artists and business owners who have assisted me in growing my business SKYNN.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn putting a time frame on every single aspect of my business. Of course, you should have a clear goal in mind and you should have a certain level of discipline to ensure you get things done in a timely fashion, but to quote my Twin Sister “You’re OD’ing it” lol. I have always been such a control freak and in every aspect of my life I had to tie time to it. By this day I am going to have this done, by this month I will have this certification and then start on the next certification the following month… in most cases that has always worked, but in my business I was so focused on moving fast, that I didn’t consider moving correctly. Over time I have unlearned that behavior and since I have I can see the difference in SKYNN’s growth.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Like any e-commerce business, social media is the key to the kingdom. The best source of new customers for me has been Instagram.
