Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmine Lang. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jasmine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business from a challenge to see what I could accomplish with $500 as an investment from my parents. They saw I had some thing that could work, which was all I needed for someone to believe in me, and therefore I started to believe in myself. I came up with a business plan, which also led me to going back to school to become a licensed aesthetician. After 11 months of night school, I knew this had to work for me and Nothing else would totally fulfill me. I felt this would work because I saw how I made my first client feel which was beautiful inside and out. This became my slogan glowing skin from within.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My makeup journey started when I was in the 9th grade. As a growing teen we all went through puberty and it showed on my face which made me use my moms makeup in secrecy. When I went off to college I began doing makeup on friends which made me better with every face I did. When I graduated with my bachelors in social work I felt that something was missing. I was happy I obtained a degree but I wanted to do something where my passion was. I became a self taught makeup artist by devoting an immense amount of time to my craft. Although, I became great at executing makeup looks I knew I needed to take it a step further and become licensed.
I knew this would set me apart from my peers, which it has.
At this moment I am most proud of my growing clientele and the connections I’ve made throughout my journey.
I would love for my future clients to know that I take pride in my work and I will never stop learning and growing as a person and artist.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Becoming an entrepreneur requires resilience from the very beginning. This was something I wish I understood when I first began my journey, but I quickly became acquainted with the phrase within the first two months of my entrepreneur journey. I invested a lot of my own money into my business to upgrade equipment, supplies, and other essential needs . I quickly realized if I’m not willing to invest into myself why would anyone else .
Also, I had to learn that there are many ups and downs as an entrepreneur, but if I stayed resilient and know what the end goal is I won’t let myself down.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn on this journey is that family and friends would be my biggest supporters. When I stated to family and friends my plan to become an esthetician the response wasn’t a very encouraging one. Also they did not book with me until a free promotion was introduced. This taught me to believe in myself no matter what and strangers would be my biggest supporters.
