We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Klapia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
We imagine – we create!
Taking a risk was the first step! And I am a risk taker…
Seeing your own products the way you have imagined explains that sometimes things can be difficult, but not impossible.
For every risk we take in life, there are steps. We just have to decide which direction to take.
Being responsible, and truthful to yourself at the same time sometimes can be challenging. Finding the right people on the path you are walking through is also challenging. Money is not always an answer. People often think that if you have money, you can do anything, and if you don’t, you can’t go too far. I don’t believe that. If you have the right team, you can create anything you wish to create. I took many risks. If you lose (money) you gain (lessons).
Having a plan is the first step to any success. How well you do next, is another story for another time.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My idea of creating a Message Through The Bottle™ line of perfumes appeared when I went through anxiety. Until then, I was providing services to those going through difficult times. I never knew how bad it is, until I experienced it. All I can say is that unless you went through it, you cannot even imagine how it feels. Yes, those which are supportive can sympathize, but it’s nothing compared to feeling it yourself.
In the previous publication of your article, I have shared how it all happened. For those who have read it and are familiar with it, I will mention it again.
Personal anxiety brought me to this path!
Expressing emotions, (in safe places of course), is crucial for our wellbeing and mental health.
How do you start a new business when you are going through a tough time? You get one answer, but then there are more questions. How do you even function while going to the ER every other day? Your life is affected; personal and professional. It was a horrible experience. Why me?! Then in the hospital, I have seen more people coming for the same reason, and I wanted to tell them, I really know what you are going through. Why should anyone go through this terrible condition? There are more stories to tell…
For many years I was there for others, and now I am going through the same experiences. When you can’t even think logically, how do you start a project? I had endless questions about anxiety and how to resolve it.
Traveling through different places and countries gave me a clear vision of what I exactly want to create. I have spoken to lots of people about it. The plan seemed almost impossible, or at least it sounded like that.
How do you create a line of any product?! The anxiety did not stop until I began this journey.
Respectfully Sexy™ speaks about body images.
Yellow Gold and White Gold versions are UNISEX fragrances. There are more perfumes and products to come.
My purpose is to inspire people and help as I can. To encourage them; especially those going through tough times. Our complicated but still beautiful world needs more of that.
Message Through The Bottle™ is about empowering one another.
I support NAMI – National Alliance on Mental Illness. 10% of annual profit will be going to this organization.
Any advice for managing a team?
Integrity is the most important thing to me. Sometimes you don’t know if everyone you are dealing with have the same intentions as you do. I often hear stories of winning and losing, like it’s some kind of a competition.
When working with people, it means working “with” not against each other.
If everyone is content, there will always be a progress for all involved in the project. If some want to “win” and push or leave others behind, let’s remind ourselves, we are not running a marathon, we are working together and everyone is entitled to its benefits. I respect everyone’s position, but I also do not allow for anyone to cross the boundaries. If there is no integrity, we cannot work together. Regardless of what we are doing.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
You can do many things on your own. You don’t need the whole team of experts and tons of money to accomplish your goals.
I always thought there will be obstacles if you can’t or don’t want to pay for everything. Example: you don’t need an office to begin with, you don’t need many employees to do the work that you probably can do on your own. You don’t need many things, but you need some things. If you are an artist, you need a pencil and paper. That’s all you need for a start. You don’t have to have lots of likes and followers on social media either. Just be honest and do your things. Those who need to find you will find you. Numbers don’t mean much. Intentions do. How you want the world to remember you, means a lot. Be yourself. We were born unique. Why copying someone else?! Share with the world something special. Something that only you can bring into people’s lives.
Discussing plans with others seemed like dreams (to them). For me, they were just goals.
What I had to unlearn is that my business is my job, not theirs.
