JASMINE, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Yes, I’ve been able to make a full -time living from my creative work over the last year or two. This year 2022 has been the beginning of being able to make a full-time living. It was very challenging at first. When you begin to step out on faith, get fired from a job you thought you would have forever; It shifts your perspective as in “Am i really made to do this?” As you being to embark on your journey, you tend to find out you were made to help solve problems and provide solutions to those problems. Most people would call it destiny, i prefer to call it your purpose in life. It’s many times where you have to sow and serve your way to earn a full-time living. When i say sow and serve, the meaning is to serve others without question. It is your local church committee, your community, a small business who needs your help but doesn’t know where to start and etc. The sowing aspect comes in from paying your tithes, helping others without wanting anything in return and just being a light where you know people need you but. don’t have the means to afford you at the moment. There were many times that i volunteered my services without getting paid, provided free brand design or design service to help a business. Even going as far as helping new owners build and set up their print shop. It wasn’t always easy. But, it teaches you humility, compassion, consistency and grace. No, it has not been like this from day 1. I am almost 9 years into operating my business and the consistency flow just flowed out of nowhere. I remained consistent when i was wounded, i continued to provide, sow and serve. There were many times that i quit & opened back up. I love what i do. I have a deep soul passion for graphic design. Providing solutions to problems is what I’m good at. Being a customer service agent taught me how to serve and solve problems. I worked with the elderly (Medicare) for over 8 years. Therefore, i knew what they needed, how to help and how to provide a solution to their problem. Major steps i took to achieve this first and foremost God and consistency. I’ve really had some great opportunities in my creative field. Designing for my favorite rapper (Curren$y Spitta), Showing demo designs for a company called (CTRL) and many other exciting projects. I wasn’t paid for the opportunities. However, i was able to sow and serve that energy into my business. Knowing what i know now, no i don’t think i could have sped up the process due to the fact that, God has his timing for everything. You must be in position to receive what you’re asking and praying for. God doesn’t give anything to you if you aren’t ready because the lack of skills and attitude could ruin what was meant to be good. For example; if God told us to go to the store specifically at 2pm and you arrive at 1:59pm and not exactly 2pm- You could miss what was supposed to be on time exactly at that moment and time. I’m a firm believer that God doesn’t make mistakes and when you’re ready for bug fish, he provides a bigger pond. I’m extremely grateful for my talent/creativity to help solve problems in the graphic design aspect. This journey has been challenging and very much well worth it! I appreciate the handwork and dedication it took me to get to this point.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
You get to meet people from all around the world that you never thought you’d meet! it’s s very humbling experience and many creatives never gain the opportunity to go beyond their limits. Most creatives are stuck in the box. If you believe in yourself just a little, you can accomplish and thrive through so much! you just have to be willing to put in the footwork and get creative in any way that you can to succeed!
